PerkinElmer Optoelectronics Delivers Two New Cameras for Advanced Color Imaging and Industrial Applications

PerkinElmer's YD5000 is the industry's most comprehensive and cost-effective family of color line scan cameras

Fremont, Calif.-May 13, 2003- PerkinElmer Optoelectronics, a global technology leader providing market-driven integrated solutions for biomedical and industrial applications, today announced the availability of two additional cameras in its YD5000 family of color line scan cameras. Two new pixel architectures complement the existing high-resolution models, giving OEMs and manufacturers the widest available catalog of ultra-sensitive cameras to meet their advanced color imaging needs.

YD5000-series cameras are designed for scientific and industrial applications that require high-speed, highly accurate color imaging, such as food and produce inspection, textile and printing inspection, document scanning, plastics sorting, paper recycling, motion picture film imaging and more.

With data output speeds of 90 MHz (30 MHz per color) and pixel resolutions of 1024, 2048, 4096 and 6144, the YD5000-series enables manufacturers to engage in color imaging for the widest range of objects with the smallest of resolutions. The YD5000 offers the industry-standard CameraLink interface, allowing OEMs to quickly integrate the camera with standard, off-the-shelf frame grabbers and cabling. This integration, coupled with the fact that the YD5000 does not require expensive custom lenses or power supplies, allows users to integrate the camera with a minimum of sourcing time and accessory cost.

PerkinElmer's YD5000-series cameras employ tri-linear CCD imaging technology, a technique that uses three separate image sensors within a single package. One problem formerly associated with this tri-linear technique was the complex task of synchronizing the different color channel outputs. The YD5000's patent-pending internal memory system removes this burden from the user and places the synchronizing function inside the camera, allowing the user to supply a simple software command to the camera, saving considerable time and cost.

"With its unique internal memory synchronizing solution, standard interface and wide variety of pixel architectures, PerkinElmer's YD5000-series offers the most complete linear color imaging solution in the market today," said John Murphy, president of PerkinElmer Optoelectronics. "PerkinElmer continues to lead the industry with high-performance and cost-effective technology solutions that are driving the industrial smart devices of tomorrow."
