Cognex Receives Orders in Excess of $700,000 from Worldwide Supplier of Document Security Systems

NATICK, MA, October 30, 2007--Cognex Corporation (NASDAQ: CGNX) announced today that it recently received a purchase order in excess of a quarter of a million dollars from a worldwide supplier of document security systems. This recent order brings the total business from this customer to more than $700,000 during 2007.

The customer will integrate Cognex In-Sight® 5410 ID readers into equipment used to validate printed documents by reading identifying codes marked on each unique piece.
"This news is especially significant, because it is an example of the high-volume business potential that exists for Cognex outside of our traditional manufacturing customer base," said Dr. Robert J. Shillman, Chairman and CEO of Cognex. "While the semiconductor and electronics industries have long used Cognex vision for traceability, we are now seeing demand for our ID technology across a wide range of industries, from pharmaceuticals, to automotive and aerospace engine parts, to document processing. We expect this to continue to be area of significant opportunity for Cognex."

Cognex ID readers quickly and reliably read codes (such as 2D Data Matrix(TM) codes, 1D codes, and others) that have been stamped, etched, or printed on items to enable part tracking and to automate production and handling processes.

Cognex provides a range of ID readers that enable users to select the best solution for their application, whether they need a portable, handheld unit, a fixed-mount device for use on a production line, or a device designed for easy integration by OEMs into handling and processing equipment.
