New Modular CNC Machine Combines Turning, Drilling Milling, Grinding

(Dayton, OH - August 2003) Erwin Junker Machinery recently introduced "Hardpoint 300," a CNC machine which combines turning, drilling, milling and grinding. The new machine will be one of those highlighted at EMO 2003 October 21 - 28 in Milan Italy. The company will be located in Hall 16, Stand A-26.
The Hardpoint 300 is a modular concept machine and can be configured with up to 4 main spindles and a variety of tooling combinations, depending on user needs.
Essentially, the machine can:
a) machine the front and rear faces of a single part, or
b) machine a single face on two parts simultaneously, or
c) machine the front and rear faces of two parts simultaneously, or
d) machine a single face on four parts simultaneously.
The "all rounder for super finishing" as it's referred to in Europe, represents a flexible and economic machine concept for high-quality, complete machining of small components. The number of axes is variable, with up to 10 possible. The Hardpoint 300 offers fully automatic, synchronous complete cutting of complex workpiece geometries, up to a diameter of approximately 3 in. x 3 in. (80 mm x 80 mm).
Its modular machine concept ensures the highest possible degree of machining efficiency and flexibility. The various platforms provide the advantages of several cutting processes to be combined, thereby eliminating the need to operate multiple machines - dramatically reducing floor space requirements, operation costs and machine investment.
The machine also can incorporate an internal gantry loader to save floor space. External loaders are also available as is a post-process measuring system. "In essence," continues Beaulieu, "this machine acts as an all inclusive transfer line, and the modular tooling concept permits the flexibility a customer may need in the future as the workpieces change.
