Class-D Audio Amp offers 64-step digital volume control.

Press Release Summary:

Supplied in 24-pin SOP, PAM8803 Class-D audio amplifier is built on filter-free architecture and features mute/enable function. It delivers 3 W stereo into 4 ohm load at less than 10% THD+Noise and offers EMI level under 30 dBµV/m. Exhibiting efficiency higher than 90% with 8 ohm load, solution only requires one input coupling capacitor per channel in external circuit. Applications include PMP, MP3/4, GPS navigator, PC speakers, LCD-monitors, and notebook PCs.

Power Analog Microelectronics Announces Industry's First 3W Class-D Audio Amplifier with Built-in 64-step Digital Volume Control

SANTA CLARA, Calif. and SHENZHEN, China, March 5 -- Power Analog Microelectronics (PAM), a developer of innovative Class-D digital audio amplifiers and high-power LED display driver semiconductors, today announced the introduction of the industry's first 3W Class-D audio amplifiers with integrated 64-step digital volume control featuring its patent pending "filter-free", next generation architecture. This announcement was made at the opening of the 12th Annual International IC-China Conference & Exhibition (IIC-China), being held in Shenzhen, Shanghai and Beijing. The IIC-China conference is the largest Semiconductor and System Design trade show in China. The PAM8803 will be showcased and demonstrated at PAM's booth at the Shenzhen Convention & Exhibition Center located in Main Hall 2, number 2H33.

The PAM8803 is the latest addition to the family of Class-D audio amplifiers from PAM, and the first from its new innovative design architecture that delivers 3W stereo into a 4-ohm load, at less than 10% THD+Noise. Its unique architecture has inherently lower EMI than competing products with under 30dBuV/m, the lowest level tested amongst the available Class-D audio amplifiers in its class. Its efficiency is higher than 90% with an 8-ohm load. Only one input coupling capacitor per channel is needed in the external circuit. The PAM8803 comes with a built-in 64-step digital volume control, mute/enable function and is packaged in a 24-pin SOP. It is ideal for applications such as PMP, MP3/4, GPS navigator, PC speakers, portable-DVD, LCD-monitors, and Notebook PC.

"With the introduction of the industry's first 3W Class-D amplifier that integrates 64-step digital volume control, the PAM8803 further solidifies PAM's position as an innovator and a leading supplier for the rapidly growing Class-D digital audio amplifier market," said Johnston Chen, President and chief executive officer of PAM. "Our patent pending filter-less architecture eliminates the requirement of external low pass filters, minimizes EMI, reduces the die size, and lowers the BOM cost, making overall system design much simpler."

The PAM8803 family of products is now in full production.
