Claria Unveils Axon Personalization Platform

Axon to power a variety of Web, software and hardware applications; awarded significant patents for technology innovation

REDWOOD CITY, Calif., April 10 // - Claria(SM) (www.claria.com) today announced Axon, the company's personalization platform that automatically identifies relevant content and information for consumers and delivers it to any device. Content providers will use Axon to power their Web sites, software and hardware applications. Claria has been awarded two significant patents around this market-proven technology.

Named after axons in the human brain - the hundreds of billions of neuron connectors that make it possible to immediately search and access information from the large amount of data we keep in our heads - Claria's Axon technology works like an intuitive personal assistant that finds and brings only highly relevant information to consumers. This patented personalization platform: 1) builds an anonymous consumer interest profile based on Web browsing activity; 2) finds the most relevant content for a particular interest by examining the patterns of users with like interests; and 3) organizes and displays relevant content or ads to users within Axon powered Web sites, software applications or hardware devices.

For publishers and partners, Claria's Axon platform will be used to personalize a variety of applications including automatically customized home pages, toolbars, instant messengers, mobile applications and IPTV. "Companies are seeking to improve consumer engagement with their content and applications, as well as to deliver highly targeted advertising based on user behavior," said Scott VanDeVelde, CEO, Claria Corporation. "The Axon platform provides partners with the ability to do both."

Claria showcased Axon's ability to deliver personalized content and advertising to Internet users with a successful beta program of PersonalWeb(SM) (www.PersonalWeb.com) - a customized home page that automatically presents users content and advertising that matches their interests. Data on over 800,000 beta users highlighted interaction rates up to three times higher than with a traditional portal home page, and behaviorally targeted banner ads receiving up to 15 times higher click through rates than traditional banners. Distribution partners including, Roger's Communications, Corel, and ZTGroup have signed on to promote versions of PersonalWeb to their tens of millions of consumers.

Claria has recently been granted two patents (U.S. Patent No. 7,149,704 and U.S. Patent No. 7,181,488) for key aspects of the Axon platform, including the use of a smart client to understand consumer interests and deliver relevant content and ads. "We are excited to have our innovative technology validated both by consumers using PersonalWeb and through the patent process," said VanDeVelde. "We are also pleased to offer the Axon platform and the benefits of anonymous personalization to content providers to make their applications more valuable to consumers and improve their bottom line."
