Ideal Introduces Palm-Sized Suretest® Arc Circuit Tester

SYCAMORE, IL, January 5, 2004 - IDEAL INDUSTRIES, INC., a leader in electrical test and measurement technology, announced today an addition to its SureTest® family of testing solutions - the new SureTest Arc Circuit Tester.

Amazing compact, the UL Listed IDEAL SureTest Arc Circuit Tester packs professional-grade 120V AFCI/GFCI testing performance into a palm-sized tool that fits as easily into a pocket as it does a toolbag.

Residential electricians and home inspectors will find the SureTest Arc Circuit Tester an essential tool, especially for checking new installations. Do-it-yourselfers concerned with fire safety can also use the tester in older homes to check for the proper operation of GFCIs and AFCIs. It plugs directly into any 120V branch circuit receptacle or through its optional extension cord (part #61-177). In field testing it received high marks for dependability, simple operation, and bright, easy-to-read LED indicators.

The SureTest Arc Circuit Tester is effective because it quickly and reliably simulates parallel arcing between line and neutral to verify the performance of arc fault breakers and outlet devices.

To conduct an AFCI branch circuit test with the SureTest Arc Circuit Tester, the user starts by pressing the AFCI breaker's test button to assure it works. Next, he resets the breaker and plugs the SureTest Arc Circuit Tester into the last outlet on the branch. At this point the polarity indicators should light, signifying power. When the user presses the AFCI the breaker must trip and extinguish the polarity indicators. However, it the breaker does not trip, there may be a branch circuit wiring problem that requires immediate attention by a professional electrician.

To perform the GFCI test, the same procedure is followed, but the tester is plugged into the outlet. Next, the GFCI test button is pressed. The breaker or outlet should interrupt power, extinguishing indicators on the tester.
