New Rosemount Analytical CIP Pharmaceutical Sensor Incorporates U.S.P. Class VI PEEK Material

Irvine, Calif., February 1, 2004 < To meet the unique requirements of clean-in-place liquid analysis for the pharmaceutical industry, Emerson Process Management has introduced a new toroidal conductivity sensor, the Model 225-08 from Rosemount Analytical. The Model 225-08 is a CIP (clean-in-place) sensor consisting of a pair of wire-wound metal toroids overmolded with a special grade of PEEK material that has been tested to the U.S.P. Class VI Biological Reactivity Tests standards and includes raw materials certification. With complete material traceability for the wetted materials, this sensor helps streamline the validation process for pharmaceutical companies wishing to incorporate the benefits of the new sensor into their manufacturing processes.

According to Dave Anderson, Pharmaceutical Industry Manager at Emerson Process Management, "Our CIP toroidal conductivity sensors are ideal for use in concentrations of acids, alkalis, and rinse waters, which are often, used in the pharmaceutical cleaning process. It is a robust sensor designed to withstand the rigors of clean-in-place." Because it is from Emerson, the sensor can be easily integrated into plant-wide digital systems such as DeltaV(TM). The DeltaV system delivers precision control and predictive maintenance and is part of PlantWeb® digital architecture. PlantWeb's network of predictive intelligence delivers results to thousands of users every day. "Being able to utilize these capabilities with minimal complexity in the validation process is a significant time and money saver for the customer."

To ensure effective cleaning, it is critical to monitor the cleaning solution strength to ensure effective sanitizing without wasting chemicals. For this measurement, CIP-resistant, sanitary inductive conductivity probes like the Model 225-08 are the ideal choice. Conductivity provides a direct correlation to concentration. The Model 225-08 also incorporates an integral temperature sensor for temperature compensation.

The Model 225-08 is an insertion style toroidal sensor that offers a wide conductivity range from 200 uS/cm up to 2 S/cm. This range allows Emerson to meet the needs of the pharmaceutical manufacturing process.
