New 2U Horizontal Chassis from Elma Allows Pluggability for Motherboard Applications
FREMONT, California, Mar. 20, 2002 - Elma Electronic Inc., a global manufacturer of electronic packaging products has announced a new 2U horizontal chassis that allows swap-ability for motherboards in a rackmount environment. The chassis is ideal for communications applications where minimizing downtime is critical.
The 39M allows tradition fixed mounted motherboards to be mounted on card guides inside the chassis. With the motherboard mounted in card format with a faceplate, the motherboard can be swapped out of the card cage without taking the unit apart. This gears the box for rackmount communications applications, where MTTR (mean time to repair) and downtime are critical.
Elma's patented EMI springs are utilized, eliminating the use of traditional gasketing to shield external seams within the box. Standard EMI gaskets can snag and bend, representing a point of failure. By eliminating the gaskets, less material and labor is used, bringing savings in design costs. Further, the stamped metal springs are designed to maximize durability and do not present a point of failure, providing another downtime-reducing advantage. The patented springs are FCC class B EMC shielding rated.
With AC or DC input, the 2U 39M provides up to 500W of power. The side-to-side airflow utilizes 4 fans for 180 CFM of cooling capacity.
