Original Press Release:

Taiyo Yuden Offers Medium-High (100-250V) Voltage Multilayer Ceramic Capacitors with Excellent DC Bias Characteristics

SCHAUMBURG, IL-October 10, 2002-Taiyo Yuden (U.S.A.), Inc. announces availability of its new CG Series of Medium-High Voltage Multi-layer Ceramic Capacitors (MLCC). Typical applications include strobe and inverter circuits, base station equipment, general telephone exchanges and other applications in the medium to high voltage (50V-250V) range. Due to the DC bias of any capacitor, capacitance value can degrade by as much as 50% as the operating voltage approaches the component's maximum rating. Taiyo Yuden's new 100V and 250V CG Series offers excellent DC Bias characteristics that minimize capacitance loss in medium-high voltage applications.

Taiyo Yuden's materials science expertise and high-precision multi-layering techniques also result in a number of other performance advantages. The CG Series' base metal (Nickel) internal and external electrodes extend component life and increase reliability. Compared to alternative technologies such as tantalum and aluminum electrolytic capacitors the CG Series capacitors have higher breakdown voltages and lower Equivalent Series Resistance (ESR) which minimizes impedances at higher frequencies as well as reducing power loss and heat generation.

The surface-mount CG Series MLCCs provide a selection of five capacitance values in 0805, 1206, 1210 and 1812 case sizes. The series currently includes capacitance value/voltage range combinations of: 0.1uF, 0.22uF, 0.47uF and luF at 100V; and 0.01uF and 0.1uF at 250V. Under development and expected to be ready during 2003 are 0.022uF, 0.047uF, 0.1uF and 2.2uF at 100V, 0.22uF and 0.47uF at 250V, and 0.047uF, 0.1uF and 0.22uF at 630V.
