Multi-Tech Systems Now Shipping EDGE PCI Card

MINNEAPOLIS, May 22 -- Multi-Tech® Systems, Inc., a leading data communications and telecommunications company based in suburban Minneapolis, is now shipping its first EDGE technology PCI card. EDGE, or Enhanced Data Rate for GSM Evolution, is one of the wireless communications technologies being implemented in cellular networks for industrial monitoring and control applications. EDGE technology is predominant in cellular networks worldwide with the added advantage of supporting GPRS (General Packet Radio Service), for lower speed connectivity. The new MultiModem® EDGE (Model MTZPC-E) is a single-port cellular PCI card that incorporates a complete quad-band EDGE design with a single SKU (Stock Keeping Unit) number facilitating shipments anywhere in the world for maximum application flexibility. The new MultiModem EDGE is designed for developers needing to provide wireless connectivity on PCI-compatible hardware operating Windows® or Linux® operating systems.

"With the large numbers of servers being shipped every day, there is a corresponding need for communications wherever the server physically ends up," states Dan Nelson, Vice President of National Sales for Multi-Tech Systems. "Much of that communications need could involve cellular technology. If a server is deployed with landline network access, there is a potential need for cellular if the network is down as in everyday failures or with natural disasters. And, if the server is deployed where there is no off-premises network or even phone line access, cellular can become vital for any number of tasks."

The new MultiModem EDGE cellular wireless modem is an RoHS (Restriction on Hazardous Material) compliant product based on the Universal PCI design with either 3.3- or 5-V operation. It is tested for FCC, PTCRB, and CE compliance, and includes drivers for Windows 2000, 2003, XP, Vista and Linux operating systems. It also includes an SMA antenna connector.

Multi-Tech Systems is an ISO 9001:2000 certified global manufacturer of telephony, Internet and device networking products connecting voice and data over IP networks. Multi-Tech Systems has 75 U.S. patents and numerous international patents.
