Kodak Delivers New High Performance CCD Image Sensor for Machine Vision Applications

Rochester, N.Y., Monday, July 8, 2002 Eastman Kodak Company announced today the KODAK KAI-0330D Image Sensor, Kodak's first 120 frames-per-second (fps) VGA format, interline CCD image sensor. The KAI-0330D is a Quad-speed (operates at four times the normal video rate of 30 fps) progressive scan sensor and will output a full 648 (H) x 484(V) image in 1/120th second or 8.3 milliseconds. This resolution and frame rate makes the sensor ideally suited for machine vision applications where accuracy and high throughput are required for optimal performance. The KAI-0330D is the result of Kodak's continued efforts to advance image sensor performance and infoimaging solutions.

By capturing images at 120 Hz, machine vision applications can achieve increased throughput and inspection efficiency. The KAI-0330D also features important advantages including asynchronous triggering, electronic shutter, square pixels, ½ inch optical format, low noise, low smear, low lag, and anti-blooming circuitry. These capabilities are critical for machine vision systems and applications that require high performance CCD sensors for quality assurance and inspection.

"The KAI-0330D, with its Quad-Speed 120 Hz frame rate, enables camera manufacturers to dramatically increase the achievable throughput of their machine vision systems," said Helen Titus, worldwide marketing manager, Image Sensor Solutions, Eastman Kodak Company. "With the new frame rate performance of the KAI-0330D, Kodak is responding directly to the specific needs of our machine vision customers. Kodak will continue to lead this market by offering products and solutions with increased performance features such as frame rate, resolution, and sensitivity (both visible and ultra-violet)."

About Eastman Kodak Company and infoimaging

Kodak is the leader in helping people take, share, enhance, preserve, print and enjoy pictures -- for memories, for information, for entertainment. The company is a major participant in "infoimaging" - a $225 billion industry composed of devices (digital cameras and PDAs), infrastructure (online networks and delivery systems for images) and services & media (software, film and paper enabling people to access, analyze and print images). Kodak harnesses its technology, market reach and a host of industry partnerships to provide innovative products and services for customers who need the information-rich content that images contain. The company, with sales last year of $13.2 billion, is organized into four major businesses: Photography, providing consumers, professionals and cinematographers with digital and traditional products and services; Commercial Imaging, offering image capture, output and storage products and services to businesses and government; Components, delivering flat-panel displays, optics and sensors to original equipment manufacturers; and Health, supplying the healthcare industry with traditional and digital image capture and output products and services.
