New Can Tab Lubrication System Reduces Oil Use And Cuts Rejects


EAST PROVIDENCE, RI USA -- EFD's MicroCoat(R) system is a new lubrication method that gives can makers total control over the amount of oil applied to pull tabs. It lowers lubricant use up to 70% and dramatically reduces residual oil that can migrate from tabs and lids into can contents - a benefit of particular interest to beer can manufacturers concerned with NIBEM foam testing.

Unlike conventional lubrication systems, the MicroCoat features precision spray valves that use Low Volume, Low Pressure (LVLP) air to coat pull tab stock with a fine film of oil. The system's even, consistent coverage keeps dies sharp up to 3X longer, eliminates pressroom mist and puddles, and minimizes VOC Levels.

A pneumatic controller regulates valve operation and makes it easy to adjust the system for different stock, lubricant and press speeds.
