Cameras comply with GigE Vision standards.

Press Release Summary:

Adhering to GenICam standards, modular camera series includes 18 GigE Scout cameras and 12 GigE Pioneer cameras, both with similar mechanical housings and common API so they may be integrated and interchanged based on application. Pioneer models are equipped with sensors ranging in size from VGA to 5 megapixels and allow users to choose resolution. Progressive scan sensors from Kodak and Sony offer fast readout times and are suited for use with Gigabit Ethernet interface.

Basler Launches 30 New GigE Vision and GenICam Compliant Camera Models

-Ahrensburg, 07 November 2006 Basler Vision Technologies announced today the addition of 30 new GigE Vision and GenICam compliant cameras. The Basler 'scout' and the Basler 'pioneer' series cameras are among the first in the industry to comply with the official GigE Vision standards. Basler will introduce the new cameras at the Vision Show Stuttgart on November 7-9, 2006.

"We see tremendous demand for GigE-based cameras in the machine vision industry because of the long cable lengths and increased bandwidth that GigE Vision affords. Additionally, because the scout and pioneer cameras adhere to the GenICam standards, customers are assured that our cameras are easy to use and economical to implement into their vision systems.", summarizes Henning Tiarks, product manager for Basler Vision Components.

Basler took a leadership role in the development of the GigE Vision standards. This intimate knowledge of the standard allowed Basler to develop a modular camera series which includes 18 GigE scout cameras and 12 GigE pioneer cameras. Both camera families feature similar mechanical housings and a common API so they may be integrated and interchanged easily based on the customers' specific applications. The modular platform concept also provides maximum flexibility by allowing users to combine different cameras without the need to change software packages.

Basler scout cameras are well positioned to accelerate the "analog to digital" trend with their economical price and exceptional performance. The VGA model scA750-60gm, for example, starts with a list price of and should be an attractive alternative for analog camera users.

Basler pioneer cameras feature a standard Gigabit Ethernet interface, and provide a good alternative to existing Camera Link solutions. Pioneer cameras use the same sensors that are used in Camera Link cameras, so optics changes are not required.

In addition to a standard Gigabit Ethernet interface, the 12 new Basler pioneer models are all equipped with highly sensitive sensors. The available sensor sizes range from VGA to 5 megapixels and offer users full flexibility in choosing a resolution. The progressive scan sensors from Kodak and Sony have fast readout times and are ideal for use with the new Gigabit Ethernet interface. A 25% increase in bandwidth (compared to Firewire-b) also makes Gigabit Ethernet the interface of choice when running these cameras in 12 bit mode.

During the upcoming year, Basler will leverage their platform concept to introduce new cameras based on industry needs. Basler will also continue to take a leadership role in the development of both GigE Vision and IEEE 1394b standards to ensure that their new cameras continue to comply with GenICam standards.

Basler-VC designs and manufactures advanced vision components for industrial users. Products include color and monochrome line scan, area scan, and intelligent area scan digital cameras ideal for high-speed and/or high-resolution applications. Product designs are driven by industry requirements offering easy interfacing, compact size, and a strong price/performance ratio.
