CAM Software automates 3D feature recognition.

Press Release Summary:

CIMSKIL(TM) software suite, with PC and Unix support, enables direct use of 3D solid-model designs in NC programming. Additional capabilities include capture and storage of optimal machining methods and automatic generation of NC tool paths and associated documentation for recognized features. Automated manufacturing feature recognition identifies 2- through 5-axis manufacturing features directly from as-designed part model.

Technology Answers Launches Ground-Breaking CAM Automation Software

SAN JOSE, C.A., February 5, 2003 - Technology Answers, Inc.(tm), a leading developer of automated feature-based machining applications for the Numerical Control (NC) software and services market, today announced the release of its CIMSKIL(tm) software suite with PC and Unix support. CIMSKIL's advanced CAM software enables direct use of 3D solid-model designs in NC programming, captures and stores "best practices" machining methods, and automatically generates the NC tool paths and associated documentation for recognized features. Thus, the product dramatically reduces NC programming and machining times for 2- through 5-axis parts.

"Our customers have experienced dramatic time savings of up to 80 percent when using CIMSKIL, with significant reductions in manufacturing throughput times for critical projects," stated Lem Bishop, president, Technology Answers. "A customer test project reduced a 70 hour programming and machining cycle to 8 hours while maintaining required quality standards. As an added benefit, the customer now has standard machining practices stored in libraries that can be used across multiple plants."

Automation of 3D feature recognition into the NC programming phase The key aspect of CIMSKIL is its automated manufacturing feature recognition (AFR), which identifies 2- through 5-axis manufacturing features directly from the as-designed part model. CIMSKIL AFR(tm) is acknowledged by leading U.S. manufacturers as the most sophisticated and accurate AFR product on the market. It is also the only solids-based AFR program on the market with the capability to support 5-axis parts.

Knowledge retention

CIMSKIL's expert module allows manufacturers to customize the CIMSKIL system by adding their own machines, tools and "best machining practices." Programmers can define their preferred manufacturing methods, including available machines, tools and materials, as well as optimum feeds and speeds for the combinations of machine, tool and materials chosen. Employing a proprietary spreadsheet-like (table-driven) interface to simplify the programming task, the CIMSKIL expert module delivers a new, efficient NC programming capability for defining automation requirements.

CAD data compatibility

CIMSKIL complements all leading solid-model CAD systems, allowing data to be imported from Pro/Engineer®, CATIA®, SolidWorks® and Unigraphics®.

CIMSKIL prices start at $60,000 per seat. More information can be found at www.cimskil.com
