CAD Translator provides product manufacturing information.

Press Release Summary:

Conforming to STEP AP203 Edition 2 standard, UGNX STEP CADverter helps companies meet Department of Defense regulations pertaining to submission of digital data as well as storage of legacy data. In addition to translation of colors, layers, and 3D annotations, software also handles validation properties, externally referenced files, and 3D geometric dimensioning and tolerancing capabilities.

Original Press Release:

Theorem Adds 3D GD&T Capability to UGNX STEP AP203 Edition 2 CADverter

Immediate Availability of New UGNX STEP Translator

Leading CAD translation specialist, Theorem Solutions announces the immediate availability of its latest UGNX STEP translator, incorporating 3D GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing) capabilities.

The new CADverter is the result of an intensive project commissioned by PDES Inc, which has seen the new processor brought to market in less than four months. Throughout the development, Theorem has worked in close consultation with Boeing and Pratt & Whitney, who both supplied production parts for early software testing.

3D GD&T data, sometimes known as Product Manufacturing Information (PMI) or Model Based Definition (MBD) data is regarded as increasingly important in the PLM arena, especially where 3D geometry is shared with manufacturing facilities. This latest Theorem product not only meets this need, but also conforms to the STEP AP203 Edition 2 standard, including translation of colours, layers, 3D annotations, validation properties, externally referenced files, and now GD&T.

Accordingly, the new CADverter represents the fullest implementation of the AP203 E2 standard by any commercial translator on the market today.

America's Department of Defense now requests that engineering data be submitted in digital format, ideally STEP. In addition, the DOD encourages the use of STEP for the storage of legacy data.

While several companies are thought to be developing GD&T functionality in their STEP interfaces, Theorem's is the first available, and for a time, the only STEP processor with this capability. As a result, Theorem's UGNX STEP AP203 Edition 2 processor will be the ideal solution for those companies with UGNX design systems, who are also doing business with the US Department of Defense.

"PDES Inc. is the international industry/government consortium accelerating the development and implementation of STEP," notes Keith Jeacock, General Manager of Theorem Solutions. "Fast delivery of product following our selection by PDES Inc. to undertake this development underlines Theorem's position as a world leading supplier of CAD translation solutions."

"Our philosophy is to meet the full spectrum of mechanical design industry demands by developing direct and standards based translators that continue to include more and more intelligence in the transfer process, he added."
