Cable Assemblies provide high-speed serial interfaces.

Press Release Summary:

Designed to address storage industry demands for high-speed serial I/O interfaces, 26-position Mini-Multilane Cable Assemblies enable Mini-SAS or Mini-SATA 4x external cable links. Units meet requirements for 1.5-6.0 Gb/s per channel, as well as future bandwidth demands. Assemblies also satisfy applicable requirements of INCITS T10 SAS 1.1 or SATA-IO Serial ATA specifications and conform to mechanical requirements described in associated SFF-8086 and SFF-8088 documents.

Original Press Release:

FCI's New Mini-SAS and Mini-SATA External Cable Assemblies Support Increased Signal Speeds

ETTERS, P.A. (February 3, 2009)- FCI, a leading developer of connectors and interconnect systems has developed external Mini-Multilane SAS/SATA I/O cable assemblies to address the storage industry's demand for more compact, high-speed serial I/O interfaces that also support evolving signal speed requirements. These assemblies offer the advantages of increased port density along a card edge and a shorter external-plug profile that reduces cable bend clearance requirements in comparison to Multilane SAS/SATA cable links per SFF-8470.

FCI's 26-position, mini-multilane external cable assemblies enable Mini-SAS or Mini-SATA 4x external cable links. These cable assemblies provide high-speed serial interfaces that are capable of meeting today's requirements for 1.5Gb/s per channel and up to 6.0Gb/s per channel, as well as future bandwidth demands.

FCI's cable assemblies meet Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) or Serial ATA (SATA) requirements for mini-multilane external cables thus assuring plug compatibility with standardized port interfaces. Specifically, FCI's mini-multilane solutions satisfy the applicable requirements of the INCITS T10 SAS 1.1 or the SATA-IO Serial ATA specifications and conform to the mechanical requirements described in the associated SFF-8086 and SFF-8088 documents. The availability of both mini-SAS and mini-SATA keying slot configurations give the user the option to choose the appropriate link for their respective applications.

"FCI continues to meet the market's need for cost-effective, high-speed and high-density cable assemblies that offer standard interfaces for application-specific solutions," said Jim David, global high-speed I/O market manager, FCI.

The cable assemblies utilize a highly engineered paddle card, which is designed to address stringent mechanical interface and signal integrity requirements. In addition, highly controlled and stable cable assembly manufacturing processes minimize variations that impact performance. Robust final test and quality systems assure conformance to the high-speed electrical performance requirements in industry specifications.
