Cable Assemblies offer tight bend radius for OEM applications.

Press Release Summary:

Glass/Glass/Polymer multimode fiber optic cable assemblies can be customized with any combination of FC, SC, ST, SC Low EMI, or LC on any end. Permanent, protective polymer coating helps protect glass from nicks and scratches. With glass cladding of 125 µm diameter, assemblies are suitable for panel to panel jumpers, equipment back planes, and optical cross-connects. They are available in 50/125 µm and 62.5/125 µm at 850 and 1300 nm multimode duplex versions.

3M Introduces New Fiber Optic Cable Assemblies with Tighter Bend Radius for OEM Market

Austin, Texas - March 7, 2003 - New multimode fiber optic cable assemblies from 3M offer superior reliability and ruggedness for applications requiring tight bends, durability and dependability. The 3M(TM) Glass/Glass/Polymer (GGP) fiber optic cable assemblies can be customized with any combination of FC, SC, ST, SC Low EMI, or LC on any end. The bending stress of a 3M GGP fiber is approximately 20 percent less than that of standard glass fibers (comparing 250 µm buffer coated fiber). Reduced stress allows a tighter bend radius. With glass cladding of 125 µm diameter, the cable assemblies are available immediately from the 3M Electronic and Interconnect Solutions Division.

Among the applications for custom GGP cable assemblies are panel to panel jumpers, equipment back planes, and optical cross-connects, although any application requiring mechanical strength in the fiber is appropriate. A permanent, protective polymer coating around the glass helps protect the glass not only from the environment, but also from nicks and scratches that commonly occur during handling and termination. The protective layer is designed to increase reliability and provide a longer lifetime than other fibers. The cable assemblies meet TIA/EIA 568B, ISO 11801 and EN50173 standards for multimode fibers and are available in 50/125 µm and 62.5/125 µm at 850 & 1300 nm multimode duplex versions. Simplex assemblies are available upon request. The LC cable assemblies may be ordered with a repositionable boot that provides better cable management. All connectors used have zirconia ceramic ferrules.
