George Fischer's New Iron Butterfly Valve Offers Superior Service Life for Harsh Industrial Applications



TUSTIN, Calif. - June 3, 2005 - George Fischer, Inc. has added the new Type 388 Metallic Butterfly Valve to further strengthen its extensive manual and actuated valve product offering. Designed in two styles - cast iron wafer and ductile iron lug - both configurations feature heavy duty iron capable of withstanding rugged industrial use for increased service life. Typical points of use include water and wastewater applications for either pressure or vacuum service.

The Type 388 Butterfly Valve incorporates a number of design features that offer easy maintenance, high performance, and safety. Its longneck body provides plenty of room - a full two inches - for adding insulation with ANSI 150 pipe flanges. The unit's heavy-duty two-piece stem allows removal of only one piece of the valve, rather than the complete valve, making it easier to service and reassemble in the field. The valve stem is pinned into the body, which not only prevents slippage or accidental removal, but also provides operator safety. Other features include corrosion-resistant wetted materials, a streamlined disc that enables maximum flow with minimum seat wear, and a unique lip design that prevents the liner from moving downstream, eliminating seat and flange leakage. The valve body is coated with an electrostatically applied thermoset polyester coating to ensure long life.

The lug style version of the valve is specifically designed for dead-end service and easy expansion. Threaded holes allow the user to screw the valve in at the end of the pipe - nothing is required on the other side. If system expansion is needed at a later time, the user simply adds pipe after the valve and opens the valve.

The Type 388 is rated for pressures up to 250 psi and temperatures up to 250°F and is available in a full range of sizes from 2 to 24 inches. The Type 388 comes standard with ANSI 150 bolt pattern, PTFE bearings, and 316 SS disc and stem. Users can select from a variety of disc and seal materials, lever or gear operator, and pneumatic or electric actuator. Optional accessories include chainwheel, square nut, stem extension, and bronze bearings.
