VPT Introduces New Bus Converter Module

Module steps down 270V to a 28V bus to power avionics subsystems

BLACKSBURG, Va., Aug. 25 -- VPT, Inc., a HEICO company (NYSE: HEI.A)(NYSE:HEI) and the innovative leader in providing power handling products for avionics and other high reliability applications, has introduced a new bus converter module: the VPTHVM-270 Series. With up to 200W of output power, this regulated bus converter module operates from a 270V bus to step down the power to create a regulated 28V bus for avionics power systems.

"With this new module, engineers can create a 28V bus to run many of the avionics subsystems, such as electronic warfare or other instrumentation," explained Michael J. Bosmann, Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing for VPT. "The new VPTHVM-270 serves as the cornerstone for a distributed power system, powering multiple VPT DC-DC converters from a single module."

A wide input voltage range accommodates MIL-STD-704 input power requirements for avionics and other applications. The high efficiency design reduces input power requirements and eases thermal management, thereby increasing the overall system reliability. With a footprint of just 2.35" (59.69 mm) by 1.550" (39.37 mm) and weighing in at 85 grams, the VPTHVM-270 Series saves valuable space and weight in a power system. Additional product features include:

-- Up to 200W output power

-- Single output

-- Very high efficiency - up to 91%

-- Wide input voltage range: 160 to 500 Volts per MIL-STD-704

-- Full operation over a wide -55 degrees C to +100 degrees C STANDARD

-- High isolation: 3000V

-- Ruggedized six-sided metal cases improving mechanical/environmental performance

-- Can be used in parallel up to five units with current sharing

-- All metal case improves EMI performance

-- Undervoltage lockout, fixed frequency, output soft start

-- No optoisolators for ultimate reliability

-- Environmental screening including a 96 hour burn-in, 100% electrical testing, and temperature cycling testing STANDARD for all products

-- Testing to JESD22, MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-883

-- Designed and manufactured in a facility certified to ISO 9001, J-STD-001, and IPC-A-610

A rugged six-sided all metal package improves performance reliability through the harsh environments of vibration, shock and temperature cycling. Like all VPT power handling products, the new VPTHVM-270 module works to satisfy the Department of Defense's "Commercial-off-the-Shelf" (COTS) directive in terms of low cost, high performance, and satisfaction of stringent avionics and military industry requirements.

New units are typically available in a short lead time. Units are priced at $414.00 in OEM quantities. Complete technical details are available at www.vpt-inc.com. For further information, contact VPT at (425) 353-3010.
