Delta Tau Introduces Family of Geo Drive Brushless Motor Drive Amplifiers

Geo Drive Amplifiers Reduce Wiring While Small Footprint Minimizes Space Requirements to Simplify Installation.

CHATSWORTH, CA- APRIL 24, 2003 - Delta Tau Data Systems Inc., the technology leader in digital signal processor-based motion control solutions, has today announced the Geo Drive family of brushless motor drive amplifiers. The robust design simplifies installation by minimizing wiring and reducing panel space requirements.

"The Geo Drive family of brushless motor drive amplifiers was designed to reduce installation time by minimizing wiring and decrease space requirements for our customers with a solution compatible with a wide range of motors and controllers," said Dimitri Dimitri, president Delta Tau Data Systems, Inc. "Delta Tau is leading the industry by packing performance and value into every solution we provide."

The Geo Drive family of brushless motor drive amplifiers consists of 1 and 2 axes 3-phase servo drive amplifiers that support a wide variety of motor types, power ranges, and user interfaces. They are designed to operate directly off the power mains (models for up to 230VAC and Up to 480VAC) for motor power and an external power supply of +24 volts DC for logic power. The Geo Drive family consists of Direct PWM and MACRO (Distributed Control) Drive interface versions.

The Direct PWM Interface accepts transistor control signals from the controller (usually a PMAC2-type controller), while providing digital phase current feedback and drive status back to the controller for closed loop operation. Interface to the Direct PWM Drive Amplifier is made through a standard 36-pin Mini-D style cable, compatible with virtually all other drives. System installation and maintenance time is minimized by reducing wiring (no position feedback or I/O is connected to the drive) and programming or variables are not set in the drive.

The Geo MACRO Drive interfaces to the controller through a fiber-optic MACRO 125 Mbit/sec ring, accepting numerical command values and returning numerical feedback values over the ring. Normal ring operation allows the user to choose between sending PWM commands, torque commands, velocity commands, or position commands that best match the application. The Geo MACRO Drive accepts a wide range of motor position feedback devices for loop control and feedback to the master controller. I/O can be transmitted on the ring for a higher level of integration, such as limits, home, and general-purpose I/O points.
