Compact Brushless DC Motor Features Integrated Drive

DOVER, NH -- EADmotors' NEMA Size 23 Brushless DC motor now features an integrated drive for simplified motor control. The new internal drive reduces overall costs by providing all necessary control and interface functions needed for speed and direction control of the motor.

The integrated drive adds a mere 1-in. to the motor length, keeping the package size compact for easy integration into new or existing size 23 motor applications. Permanently lubricated ball bearings and dynamically balanced rotors reduce audible noise and vibration while ensuring reliability and extended motor life.

The drive controls the motor speed and direction by analog voltage or pulse width modulation. The motor is configured with up to six-wire unidirectional on/off operation for controlling speed, direction and tachometer output. The command lead, configurable to accept either a 0 - 6Vdc signal or 6V, 1KHz pulse with modulated square wave, control motor speed. A tachometer output lead supplies a 5Vdc fixed width pulse with frequency proportional to motor speed. An optional externally applied resistor and capacitor will supply DC voltage proportional to motor speed. The standard drive is rated at 24Vdc but can be configured for voltages up to 48Vdc. Continuous current ranges from 1 - 5 amps with peak currents as high as 10 amps.

Motors can be customized to suit specific application requirements. Examples offered are: different stack lengths, custom windings, voltages, shaft modifications, shielded cables and connectors. The NEMA Size 23 Brushless DC motor with integrated drive simplifies precision motor conltrol while reducing costs and performs reliably medical equipment, semiconductor equipment, robotics and other applications.
