TI Equips OEMs with USB-to-Serial Bridge for Connectivity Between Serial Devices and New Laptops or Legacy-Free PCs

DALLAS, (June 11, 2004) - Continuing to deliver industry-leading, flexible connectivity devices, Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) (NYSE: TXN) recently announced a key device that allows connectivity between serial based embedded applications and new laptops or legacy-free PCs. Supporting both self- and bus-powered modes, the TUSB3410 is ideal for upgrading serial devices to a fast, flexible USB interface by bridging between a high-speed USB port and an enhanced Universal Asychronous Receiver/Transmitters (UART) serial port. (See www.ti.com/sc04145.)

TI's TUSB3410 includes all the necessary logic to communicate effectively and efficiently with the host computer using the USB bus. The solution contains an 8052 microcontroller unit (MCU) with 16KB of RAM that can be loaded from the host or from an external on-board memory via an I2C bus. To allow the MCU to configure the USB port at boot-time, there are 10KB of ROM, which also contains an I2C boot loader.

The TUSB3410, which is fully compliant with USB Full Speed specifications, supports a data rate of 12-Mbps and can sustain six total endpoints - three inputs and three outputs.

Additional Features
o Built-in two-channel DMA controller for USB/UART bulk I/O
o Operates from a 12-MHz crystal
o Supports USB suspend and resume
o Supports remote wake-up

Availability, Packaging and Pricing
The TUSB3410 is available now from TI and its authorized distributors. The device is packaged in a 32 pin LQFP. Planned pricing is $2.50 each in quantities of 1,000.
