Breather Filter contains water-absorbing agent.

Press Release Summary:

LubeGuard Desiccant Breather Filter prevents airborne dirt and water contamination from entering lubrication reservoirs, gearboxes, and storage tanks as differential pressures occur through thermal expansion and contraction of fluid. It helps reduce sludge deposits and water-contaminated oil, providing longer oil and filter life, and reducing equipment wear. Filter replaces standard lubricant breather caps on most types of industrial and commercial equipment.

Mobil LubeGuard Desiccant Breather Filters Help Beat Humidity, Extend Equipment Life

Patented design helps to efficiently prevent airborne dirt and water contamination from entering lubrication reservoirs, gearboxes and storage tanks

FAIRFAX, VA, June 24, 2002 - Mobil LubeGuard Desiccant Breather Filters are powerful preventive maintenance tools designed to protect virtually all types of industrial and commercial equipment that contain hydrocarbon and other non-aqueous fluids.

Mobil LubeGuard filters feature an advanced, patented design with a water-adsorbing agent. They are designed to prevent water and contaminants from entering fluid reservoirs as differential pressures occur through thermal expansion and contraction of the fluid, or during the filling and emptying process. They help reduce sludge deposits and water-contaminated oil, help provide longer oil and filter life, and reduce equipment wear. As a result, maintenance costs may be reduced with fewer repairs, parts, labor costs, and production downtime.

"Equipment downtime can translate into thousands of dollars per hour," said Jeff Heavner, North American Industrial Marketing Manager for ExxonMobil Lubricants & Specialties. "Minimizing lubricant moisture content is an important part of a world-class
preventive maintenance program, and the Mobil LubeGuard Desiccant Breather Filters are the ideal solutions to optimize equipment performance and extend equipment life."

Mobil Desiccant Breather Filters replace standard lubricant breather caps on virtually all types of industrial and commercial equipment. ExxonMobil recommends replacing the filters when the color changes from blue to pink, or after one year of service.

Here's how the Mobil Desiccant Breather Filter works:
o As air enters the unit from outside or inside the reservoir, it contacts a low-density foam filter element in the Mobil Desiccant Breather Filter. Foam inserts capture oil mist and evenly disperse air to ensure efficient use of the desiccant stack.
o Air then passes through a woven polyester filter element that retains 100% of particulate matter down to 3 microns, and 73% of particulate matter down to 0.5 micron.
o The next filter stage is when the air passes through the desiccant stack, which adsorbs the water vapor.
o For added protection, the air then passes through a second 3-micron filter.
o Clean dry air now flows through the standpipe (breather vent).
o As dry system air exits, it passes back through the silica gel, partially regenerating the desiccant.
