Brady Offers the Industry's First Halogen Free Circuit Board Identification Solution
New R6000 Halogen Free Printer Ribbon completes Brady's halogen free offering for circuit board ID
Milwaukee, WI - In response to recent low halogen compliance initiatives and a continued emphasis on workplace safety, Brady Worldwide, Inc. has launched a new halogen free printer ribbon - the R6000HF ribbon. With the addition of the R6000HF Halogen Free Printer Ribbons, Brady is the first supplier in the consumer electronics market to offer a full halogen free printing solution for circuit board identification, complete with a variety of halogen free polyimide labels.
Environmental and health concerns increase demand for halogen free products
Many companies in the electronics industry have voiced concern over the environmental impact of their products, with hopes of reducing the environmental footprint of manufacturing consumer electronics.
One of the focal points of this discussion is the use of halogens, such as bromine and chlorine. In certain high temperature circumstances, these halogens can release chemicals that are harmful to humans and could potentially damage nearby electronics. To mitigate such concerns, many consumer electronics companies, including Dell and Nokia, have put initiatives in place to reduce or remove halogens from their products.
Brady R6000HF ribbons provide cost-effective, environmentally-friendly identification
Brady's new R6000HF Halogen Free printer ribbons have near identical performance characteristics as Brady's existing R6000 ribbons, according to test results conducted on Brady label materials. With matching performance and an equal price point as the existing R6000 thermal transfer ribbons, the R6000HF thermal transfer ribbons give electronics manufacturers the opportunity to create a safer workplace without having to sacrifice quality or cost.
The International Electrochemical Commission's (IEC) definition for halogen free materials (IEC 61249-2-21) states that a material must have less than 1,500 halogen parts per million (ppm) to be considered halogen free. Brady's R6000 Halogen Free Ribbons contain only 45 halogen ppm - bromine and chlorine combined - which is far below the requirements of the standard.
