PCD SMT Compatible Board Mount Plug Adds System Flexibility
(Peabody, MA) PCD has added a unique SMT compatible board-mount plug - also referred to as an inverted header - to its ELF family of .200" spacing European style pluggable terminal blocks and headers. The new ELFB line consists of board-mounted solder pin headers which incorporate a mating configuration identical to a standard .200" pluggable block. It features a plug-like nose and twin-beam plug contacts, and will mate with standard ELF pin headers or similar competitive headers, providing board-to-board interconnect capability.
The ELFB gives system users and designers the capability to easily introduce accessory boards which can add flexibility by modifying system I/O features or adding electronics for a special application.
The inverted headers are molded in an ultra-high temperature glass-filled polyamide capable of withstanding temperatures of 260°C for three minutes and undergoing SMT reflow soldering. This eliminates the need for a separate wave soldering operation for the header, if SMT is being employed in the board manufacturing process.
ELFB headers are available in vertical and horizontal styles, and in 2 through 20 positions. Individual headers can also be dovetailed together to form a longer assembly, providing users with the opportunity to minimize inventory by stocking selected sizes and assembling-to-length.
Delivery is 10 days or less for production quantities in accordance with the PCD Express delivery program. Prices are approximately $.14 per position in production quantities.
