Pilot of New Consumer Device and Services to Commence in the Middle of the Year
DALLAS - AT&T* today announced an agreement with BlueLibris to provide wireless connectivity for a personal monitoring device. The BlueLibris small wearable device allows real-time communication with an adult or child wearing the device through call-center capability. BlueLibris plans to add, subject to any required regulatory approval, near real time monitoring of patient physical activity and physical information collected from other peripheral devices. The BlueLibris device and platform will be designed to offer HMOs, PERS Vendors, hospitals, care organizations, fitness and medical device manufacturers and service companies the ability to rapidly deploy mobile monitoring services for their customers.
Inside the deceptively simple 3G device are the latest advances in ARM-based low-power microprocessors and micro-sensor technology together with simultaneous cellular voice and data connectivity. While focused on delivering a simple, intuitive consumer experience, BlueLibris' intelligent solution gives an easy and cost-effective mobile monitoring capability.
The BlueLibris service is designed for multiple consumer segments. Seniors can use the device to stay mobile while still providing location and other information; parents can use the device to monitor the location of their children; healthcare organizations can use the device to locate patients and to offer near real time assistance outside of the traditional hospital walls; and fitness enthusiasts can also use the device to track and share real time distance and physiological measurements.
"Providing a wireless connection to the BlueLibris device is a practical and affordable solution that makes sense for multiple segments, including parents who want to seamlessly monitor the whereabouts of their young children," said Glenn Lurie, president of emerging devices, resale and partnerships, AT&T.
"AT&T is again breaking new ground with innovative devices and services. Consumer-focused, mobile, wearable monitoring will enable care organizations to strengthen their relationship with their subscribers," said Ram Fish, CEO of BlueLibris. "We're excited to work with AT&T as we introduce new methods for monitoring and providing better care."
"Continuous monitoring of activity and health is going to be a pervasive part of our lives, and ARM low-power processors are the cornerstone of these services," said Ian Drew, Executive Vice President of Marketing, ARM. "The combination of BlueLibris' vertically integrated, consumer focused solution and AT&T's vast mobile broadband network is an opportunity to improve patient and consumer standards of living with life enhancing healthcare services."
