Oracle Announces Oracle® Business Intelligence Suite Enterprise Edition 10g Release 3

Comprehensive, Integrated Suite to Enable Pervasive Intelligence Throughout the Enterprise

ORACLE OPENWORLD, SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 24 // -- Oracle (NASDAQ:ORCL) today announced another milestone in the growth of Oracle® Fusion Middleware, the next release of its open, standards-based suite of enterprise business intelligence (BI) products: Oracle Business Intelligence Suite Enterprise Edition 10g Release 3. Oracle Business Intelligence Suite Enterprise Edition (Oracle Business Intelligence Suite EE) enables organizations to distill intelligence from existing applications and data sources and distribute it pervasively across the enterprise to optimize business processes, decisions, and actions.

The next release of Oracle Business Intelligence Suite EE focuses on three key areas:

o new components and enhancements to enable pervasive, enterprise-wide
intelligence;
o strategic integration with Oracle Applications, Oracle Fusion Middleware
and Oracle Database; and,
o expanded "hot-pluggable" support for third-party data sources and
systems.

"In March, we introduced the Oracle Business Intelligence Suite Enterprise Edition -- a comprehensive, standards-based foundation for delivering pervasive insight across the enterprise," said Thomas Kurian, Senior Vice President of Oracle Server Technologies. "The compelling benefits of the new release will further obviate the need for organizations to wire together tools from multiple point product BI vendors in order to have a complete, integrated, best-of-breed solution, regardless of whether they have Oracle, non-Oracle, or mixed environments."

Pervasive Intelligence to Optimize Enterprise-wide Performance

Enabling pervasive intelligence demands a new class of BI capabilities -- information must be relevant to all users, delivered in time to affect business results, be accessible through a broad range of mediums such as dashboards, alerts, and reports, and be integrated seamlessly into business processes and workflow. The BI architecture must also provide a foundation that can scale economically over time to handle nearly limitless data growth and user demands. The next release of Oracle Business Intelligence Suite Enterprise Edition plans to extend Oracle's unique capabilities across all of these dimensions.

Intelligent Workflow through SOA and Oracle BPEL Process Manager -- Virtually seamless integration of intelligence with workflow processes should enable organizations to link insight to action, a large opportunity for value realization as organizations expand BI more broadly. Oracle Business Intelligence Suite EE plans to leverage Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) techniques and integration with Oracle BPEL Process Manager to support multiple modes of analytics-driven workflow. This includes invocation of a Business Process Execution Language (BPEL) process from the BI environment, either through automated BI alerts or directed by BI users; BI that directs a BPEL process with intelligent decision points and conditional process steps based on analytics; and BPEL processes invoking analytic workflows through Web services.

Financial Reporting, Portals, and RSS Feeds -- Oracle Business Intelligence Suite EE offers users access to information through a wide range of options, including interactive dashboards, reports, ad hoc analysis, real-time alerts, mobile disconnected analytics, integration with Microsoft Office and Excel, and more. The next release plans to enhance existing capabilities and extend the accessibility of information to new mediums. For example, improved layout capabilities in Oracle Interactive Dashboards should provide financial style reporting within the context of live and interactive Web dashboards. With support for JSR-168, organizations can expect to embed BI portlets into any JSR-168 compliant portal, while Really Simple Syndication (RSS) capabilities intend to allow access to BI information and Alerts via RSS-aware applications.

Integrated Enterprise Reporting -- The next release plans to include full integration of Oracle XML Publisher, now named Oracle BI Publisher, to provide advanced, pixel-perfect reporting and publishing capabilities within Oracle Business Intelligence Suite EE. As a result, organizations can plan to generate a broad range of documents such as sales orders, invoices, purchase orders, high-fidelity reports, financial statements, government forms, checks, labels, and electronic documents (EFT/EDI) -- leveraging the same unified metadata model and Oracle BI Server infrastructure in addition to operational databases and Web services. The new release plans to allow customers to schedule and deliver documents to printer, fax, email, WebDAV, or include them in interactive dashboards.

Enterprise Scalability and Manageability -- Oracle Business Intelligence Suite EE plans to include enhancements to speed performance and ease administration. For example, new data mart automation capabilities should enable organizations to do "model first" development, starting with the business model and leveraging new capabilities in the Oracle BI Server to automatically generate, persist, and transparently utilize aggregate tables in a database.

Strategic Oracle Product Integration to Extend Capabilities while Lowering Costs

Release 3 plans to deliver pre-integration with Oracle Applications, Oracle Database and Oracle Fusion Middleware, extending the value and capabilities of the product while lowering total cost and complexity for customers. In addition to the integration with Oracle BI Publisher, Oracle BPEL Process Manager, and Oracle Portal outlined above, the following key Oracle product integrations are planned:

o Oracle Database 10g OLAP - Customers can reduce overheads and improve
access to information by consolidating server engines to store, view and
analyze data in OLAP cubes with full support for the OLAP option of
Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition;

o Oracle Identity Management - Integration with a variety of Oracle
security, provisioning, and authentication products including Oracle
Database Virtual Private Directory, Oracle Internet Directory, the
Oracle E-Business Suite security model, and Oracle SSO Server;

o Oracle BI and Analytic Applications - The platform for Oracle BI
Applications, Oracle Business Intelligence EE is expected to deliver new
dashboarding and reporting capabilities for Oracle Daily Business
Intelligence and Oracle's PeopleSoft EPM as well as serve as the
foundation for BI in Oracle Fusion Applications.

Commitment to Open Standards and a Hot-Pluggable Architecture

Oracle Business Intelligence Suite EE is built on open standards and designed to fit into any existing IT architecture, efficiently interoperating with existing data sources, applications, security models, and end user tools. With its native Web services-based architecture, unique model-driven approach and ability to provide semantic integration of information across Oracle and non-Oracle sources, Oracle Business Intelligence Suite EE enables customers get a complete view of performance across multiple, diverse information silos.

Release 3 plans to expand certification and native, optimized support for third-party data sources and infrastructure products including the latest releases of IBM DB2, NCR Teradata, and Microsoft SQL Server. Expanding support for multi-dimensional data sources, Oracle also intends to deliver native, direct access to SAP Business Information Warehouse (SAP BW). Support for SAP BW's InfoCubes plans to include import of SAP BW structures and hierarchies metadata directly into Oracle Business Intelligence Suite EE, providing users with a powerful tool for analyzing SAP BW data alongside other data sources.

These enhancements and new features represent a small sample of the full range of new functionality planned for Oracle Business Intelligence Suite Enterprise Edition 10g Release 3, scheduled for general availability in the next 12 months.
