The New Gearbox RO2 of Varvel SpA
The Bologna-based company introduces a new series of two-stage bevel/helical gearboxes, mainly to drive logistics systems with proven efficiency, sturdiness and cost-effectiveness.
Varvel SpA introduces a new bevel/helical series as expansion to the already appreciated gearbox lines RO and RV.
The existing Series RO-RV was designed according to the company’s principles of product modularity; This guideline, with three gear-sets and enabling local assembly from kits for all the new gearboxes, has been conceived since the year 2000. In this way, Varvel distributors worldwide have been able to provide a complete bevel/helical gearbox starting from partially assembled kit form modules.
Now, Varvel is looking at those applications that require ratios up to 50/1 allowing the possibility of a direct supply to the OEMs. Therefore, a new bevel/helical gearbox line, RO2 has been designed with the aid of state-of-the-art gear calculation, modelling, and housing stress and deformation checking.
The RO2 reduction ratios are achieved with two gear sets, bevel at input and helical at output. In order to increase the transmission efficiency, Varvel wishes to satisfy the request for lower torques with bevel/helical reducers instead of worm gearboxes. This aspect has motivated the company to produce a smaller size RO2 that aroused great interest at the last trading fairs.
The new series is made of four sizes:
RO02 - max. torque 120 Nm and hollow output shaft 25 mm
RO12 - 120 Nm and 30 mm
RO22 - 330 Nm and 35 mm
RO32 - 550 Nm and 40 mm
and the technical performances are about 20% higher than the competition. Twenty ratios from 5.2/1 to 51.5/1. One-piece housing and additional fixing holes have granted an increased torsional rigidity to most of customers’ fitting.
