CSC Introduces HealthSpace Advisor Benchmarking Tool

Application to Help Improve Hospital Efficiency

FALLS CHURCH, Va., Jan. 29 -- CSC (NYSE:CSC) today introduced HealthSpace Advisor, a Web-based benchmarking tool that enables hospitals to analyze how effectively they use space in key revenue generating areas. The application also provides hospital administrators with information on enhancing operational efficiency, optimizing departmental revenue and improving healthcare delivery.

The new tool, available by subscription, evaluates space productivity by analyzing departmental physical configuration in relation to process improvements, financial indicators and staffing measures. Unlike other tools, HealthSpace Advisor examines key performance indicators simultaneously, including the two highest cost elements - people and space - and analyzes hospital departments based on space configuration instead of less specific comparisons such as total bed number.

"In my work I'm regularly asked to come up with cost-saving strategies," said Steven Carl Jung, director, Diagnostic Imaging at Alexian Brothers Medical Center. "HealthSpace Advisor takes the pain out of this process by helping us see how we compare to the nation's most efficient hospitals and how to make the most of our available space and resources."

"Medical advances, coupled with new technologies, are driving hospital administrators to reevaluate their space in order to continue providing safe, quality care while increasing efficiency," said Deward Watts, president of CSC's Global Healthcare Sector. "By combining carefully researched benchmarks, intuitive graphics and expert analysis, HealthSpace Advisor provides the best overall key performance space productivity assessment available today. This information will help hospital executives make more accurate management decisions that lead to accelerated improvements in efficiency."

The application analyzes four key departments: emergency, intensive care, imaging and operating room/post anesthesia. It also provides written analysis, prepared by CSC healthcare experts experienced in improving operational performance and space planning. The tool encompasses information from a variety of sources, including proprietary databases, the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services' Cost Report and the American Hospital Directory.

Annual subscriptions include four quarterly customized benchmarking reports prepared by CSC senior clinicians and planners, access to CSC subject matter experts and educational programs and publications.

CSC has supported the healthcare industry for more than 30 years. Its Global Healthcare Sector, which serves healthcare providers, health plans, pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturers, and allied industries around the world, is a global leader in transforming the healthcare industry through the effective use of information to improve healthcare outcomes, decision-making and operating efficiency.
