BEA's WorkSpace 360 Slated for 2007; Industry's First SOA Tools to Put Business and IT at the Same Table

BEAWORLD 2006 - SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 19 -- In support of its SOA 360 platform, BEA Systems, Inc. today gave a preview of its new WorkSpace 360 product family. The WorkSpace 360 product family is part of the BEA SOA 360 platform, which also spans across the three BEA product families -- Tuxedo, WebLogic and AquaLogic.

Slated to enter the market throughout 2007, WorkSpace 360 is intended to fundamentally change the way that both business and IT professionals collaborate and work individually across the extended enterprise. BEA believes that this product family will deliver the first truly shared workspaces that empower the most important Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) leadership roles across the enterprise -- the business analyst, enterprise architect, service/application developer and the IT operations professional. The BEA WorkSpace 360 product family seeks to bring a free-form collaborative environment into every aspect and every role in the SOA leadership team.

"Imagine a shared workspace where business analysts and IT professionals could be at the same table, each with their own perspective. This is a fundamental re-think of tooling," said Alfred Chuang, chairman and chief executive officer, BEA Systems, Inc. "Traditional Application Lifecycle Management tools have aimed at the individual productivity of the developer or operations professional, and stifled it with a stove-piped and inflexible tool environment. It's time that our tools span from business process modeling to development and deployment to deliver real-time updates that meet situational application requirements -- with dynamic team problem solving and group line of sight built in."

About BEA WorkSpace 360

BEA WorkSpace 360 is meant to fundamentally change the way applications and services are defined, delivered and optimized by breaking down the artificial barriers that can exist across organizations and between the real participants in the SOA lifecycle; the business analyst, architect, developer and IT operator. By providing comprehensive SOA lifecycle management in context with the appropriate views of design and deployment information, every participant can not only know their work is important, but actually see how their efforts are aligned to impact the overall success of the business.

WorkSpace 360 is planned to empower the following service lifecycle participants:

o WorkSpace for Business Analysts will offer the ability to define, create and monitor business process, activities and key performance indicators. This workspace will be built out of existing BEA capabilities, such as AquaLogic Business Process Management Suite, and new offerings.
o WorkSpace for Architects provides the ability for architects to collaborate with other participants in order to interpret business requirements, apply the service oriented framework to fulfill those requirements, and ensure the architectural compliance. This workspace will be built out of existing BEA capabilities, such as AquaLogic Data Services Platform and AquaLogic Service Bus products as well as BEA's leadership in SOA standards development.
o WorkSpace for Developers enables developers to collaborate with architects, implement the requirements of the architecture through a comprehensive and extensible development environment. This workspace will be built out of existing BEA capabilities, including the award-winning BEA Workshop product family which is built on the Eclipse Framework.
o WorkSpace for IT Operations enables IT management to have visibility and control over the operational impact of a SOA infrastructure through the management and monitoring of the environment, such as business activity monitoring, infrastructure health monitoring, and policy and SLA management. This workspace will be built out of BEA capabilities, such as operation consoles from existing and future BEA products.

The WorkSpace 360 product family also includes WorkSpace Central, which is designed to provide a shared, collaborative SOA lifecycle management capability across all the SOA lifecycle participants with comprehensive metadata and asset management as well as project-based team collaboration. This extends SOA governance to provide a 360 view into SOA projects for the SOA leadership team. WorkSpace 360 centers around the company's metadata repository, the AquaLogic Enterprise Repository.
