Batch Oven Cures Composites for Aerospace Industry



Wisconsin Oven designed and manufactured an electrically heated batch oven to cure composite material for the aerospace industry. The curing oven has chamber dimensions of 4'0" wide x 4'0" long x 6'0" high, a maximum operating temperature of 650° F and a normal operating temperature of 400° F.

The oven is constructed with 6" thick tongue and groove panel assemblies and 20 gauge aluminized steel interiors and ductwork. The oven also includes a 2" thick reinforced, insulated floor with wheel guides. The heating system features incoloy sheathed heating elements, for a total of 48kW heat input with SSR power control. The recirculation system has a 4,500 CFM @ 5 HP blower and utilizes combination airflow to maximize heating rates and temperature uniformity.

This composite curing oven has a NEMA 12 control enclosure with IEC style motor starters, push buttons, and pilot lights. The oven temperature is controlled by a Watlow F4D programmable temperature controller. Over temperature protection is provided by a Barber Colman high limit controller.

The customer added Wisconsin Oven's energy efficient E-Pack(TM) oven upgrade, which includes thicker wall panels, higher efficient motors, a door limit switch, and a few other energy saving items that will reduce their operating costs. This oven also includes Wisconsin Oven's Exclusive 3-Year Heat & Recirculation Warranty on materials and labor for the recirculation blower, heating elements, and SSR.
