ADA, Mich. - Bastian Material Handling and ASAP Automation have been selected to deliver material handling systems for two distribution service centers for Amway. Both service centers will be delivered in 2011 with the first located in Santa Fe Springs, Calif., near Amway's operations in Buena Park, and the second in Ada, Mich., the company's primary manufacturing site.
"These projects represent the start of what we hope will be a business relationship that lasts for many years," said Aaron Jones, National Director for Bastian Material Handling. "The systems we design will be integrated to help Amway create distribution efficiencies that result in improved shipping lead times and transportation savings."
Technologies to be provided by Bastian and ASAP include a Warehouse Control System (WCS) to manage automation functions, including automated invoice inserting and carton labeling; improved picking technologies with voice and light directed picking; and a conveyor system with sortation and direct trailer loading. Amway will also manage incoming orders with a new Red Prairie Warehouse Management System (WMS).
