BASF Introduces Lumina® Royal Blue Effect Pigments

New high-chromaticity pigments out-perform current interference blue effect pigments

FLORHAM PARK, NJ, November 19, 2009 -- BASF, a leading global provider of innovative effect pigments, announces the launch of Lumina Royal Blue and Lumina Royal Exterior Blue - intense red shade blue interference pigments.

"Lumina Royal Blue pigments enable designers to create eye-catching effects for standard and high-end products," said Thierry Chevrier, Head of BASF's Pigments Business in North America. "Designers can use these interference pigments to style powerful and chromatic shades. This will help brand owners to differentiate and position their products better in an increasing competitive marketplace."

The industrial version of the pigment can be used to visually enhance mobile devices, consumer electronics, appliances, sporting goods, and cosmetic and personal care packaging. The exterior version of the pigment is coated with BASF's chrome-free surface treatment (CFS) for improved durability in applications that require humidity resistance and excellent adhesion, such as automotive, coil and powder coating applications.

BASF pigments provide a broad range of depth, gloss, sparkle and multicolor effects. Royal Blue is the first high chromaticity effect pigment being launched as part of BASF's extension to the Lumina effect pigment portfolio. The high chromaticity pigments will provide maximum interference effect for all color spaces.

"BASF's effect pigments help our customers to be more successful because they stimulate consumer senses, enable sustainable design flexibility, and allow our customers to respond to emerging industry trends," Chevrier added. "The Lumina mica-based effect pigments are well-known by the industry for their ability to create dramatic visual effects when combined with other effect or color pigments."
