BASF Introduces Injection Portfolio for Underground Coal

MEYCO® products promote safety, stability of mining operations

CLEVELAND, OH, June 24, 2009 -- The Underground Construction Group (UGC) of BASF Construction Chemicals - North America today announced the launch of its new polyurethane and urea silicate injection portfolio for the coal mining industry. The line includes ground consolidation and void and cavity filling materials that provide added safety and stability to the mine infrastructure.

Available under the MEYCO brand name, the coal mine injection portfolio includes three new products. MEYCO MP 364 Flex is a safe, innovative, two-component urea silicate technology that provides improved performance over traditional polyurethanes. MEYCO MP 367 Foam, which also uses urea silicate technology, is an excellent alternative for filling large voids and cavities throughout the mine in various applications. The foam improves simplicity, safety and performance. Finally, MEYCO MP 357 GS is a traditional, high performance two-component polyurethane for ground stabilization.

"Ground stabilization and ground control are very important to building a safe, efficient, and long-term mining operation," said Haydn Whittam, Segment Specialist, Underground Coal, BASF. "With BASF's innovative line of injection products for underground coal mining, we contribute to the protection of our customers from potentially poor ground conditions and the associated financial and environmental consequences."

Products in the BASF injection portfolio were developed to enhance safety and improve production in mining operations. Available on a global scale, they havebeen thoroughly tested and proven over time, and they meet some of the most stringent mining approval requirements worldwide.

"BASF maintains a strong focus on product stewardship and a commitment to providing the highest quality mining solutions," Whittam said. "We train our customers on the practical handling, usage, storage and disposal of all of these products to help them ensure optimal mining environments for their employees."

In addition to its injection portfolio, BASF offers a full range of concrete admixtures, backfill products, corrosion and abrasion control systems, and thin spray-on liners for mine support needs. The business also offers the MEYCO line of equipment, including shotcrete pumps, robotic manipulators and specialty equipment.
