New Barcode Readers from Pepperl+Fuchs Provide Effective Production Management in Hazardous Locations

Available in hand-held versions with wireless or cabled operation, stationary miniature styles and intrinsically safe models

TWINSBURG, OH -Pepperl+Fuchs introduces SCANEX - a complete family of barcode readers engineered for use in hazardous areas. SCANEX may be used for production management in a variety of industries with hazardous locations. The entire family has Gas Zone 1 and Dust Zone 22 ATEX approvals, with North American approvals pending.

Three primary models are available - the Dragon D101, a cabled trigger operated handheld scanner; the Dragon M101, a wireless trigger operated handheld scanner; and the Nano, a fixed mount miniature scanner with continuous scan operation.

The D101's reading distance is 80 to 800 mm (3 to 31.5 in.), while a long-range option expands the range from 250 to 2500 mm (10 to 100 in.).

The wireless M101 offers a maximum reading distance of 1100 mm (43 in.), with a 50 m (164 ft.) radio transmission radius. The unit weighs less than one pound and can perform up to 30,000 read operations per battery charge. No license is required for the wireless radio frequency, and up to 32 readers link to one radio base station. Special features include single store batch mode and datalogging.

The IP65 rated Nano offers a reading distance range from 100 to 750 mm (4 to 29 in.) with a scan rate of 39 scans per second. The operating temperature range is -20°C to +55°C. This unit is ideal for fixed location scanning as on weighing platforms and conveyor systems.

Many industries require traceability of ingredients, byproducts and final products throughout the manufacturing process, and must meet strict government guidelines for GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices). Bar coding is the most widely utilized solution for tracking products through various stages of manufacturing. The SCANEX family of bar code readers provides such a solution in gaseous and dust hazard locations.
