SICK Launches New 2D Bar Code Reader for DataMatrix Codes



ICR840 ideal for directly marked part identification applications, enabling better traceability

Minneapolis, Minn. August 22, 2006 - SICK, one of the world's leading manufacturers of sensors, safety systems and automatic identification products for industrial automation, today announced the launch of the ICR840 area CMOS 2D bar code reader. It is ideal for applications that use directly marked stationary objects (e.g. consumer goods packaging, pharmaceutical, electronic components or parts supplied to automotive industry) that require identification.

It offers a high resolution - 1.3 mega-pixels (1280 x 1024), and integrated LED illumination for 1D and 2D DataMatrix decoding. The ICR840 also has an image repeat rate that can be adapted for the particular task. Whether it is reading ink jet or dot peening, the ICR840 is an effective solution for direct part marking (DPM) identification. DPM is gaining importance with the increasing miniaturization and the ever-growing demand for traceability in a variety of industries, production and logistics, as well as in document handling, pharmaceuticals, laboratory, and automotive.

The ICR840 offers a resolution that can be adjusted to increase the image repeat rate above 25Hz. This enables faster read rates or more opportunities to decode slowly moving product. The standard field of view is 45 x 35 mm², sufficient for resolving small DataMatrix codes with 0.2-mm cell sizes.

The ICR840 is simple to set up. Supplementary software assistants support users during mechanical adjustment, teach-in of the code to be detected, and Ethernet connection.
