Trenton BP4FS6890 Tackles Tough Cluster Computing Applications

Atlanta, GA - Trenton announces the availability of the BP4FS6890 multi-segment backplane. The BP4FS6890 backplane allows four single board computers to operate simultaneously in one 19" rackmount system chassis. The processor boards have the ability to run independent software applications or function together as part of a computer cluster. The backplane allows customers to implement system designs that use less rack space. Typical system applications for the BP4FS6890 backplane include; unmanned aircraft control, cryptography and surveillance systems.

Trenton's BP4FS6890 backplane is factory configured to support either server-class or graphics-class PICMG 1.3 system host boards or SHBs. In addition to one SHB, each BP4FS6890 SHB segment also contains two x16 PCI Express® mechanical slots and server-class models offer an extra x8 PCIe mechanical slot. One of the x16 PCIe slots in each segment of the graphics-class backplane model is driven with a x16 PCI Express electrical link. Support for industry standard PICMG 1.3 SHBs is included in the BP4FS6890 backplane design including high performance system host boards like the Trenton MCX/MCG-series featuring two, multi-core Intel® Xeon® processors and the TQ9 featuring the Intel® Core(TM) 2 Q9400 long-life, quad-core embedded processor.

"The BP4FS6890 backplane design allows customers to deploy what amounts to four independent, high-performance industrial computers in one industry standard, 4U, 19" rackmount computer system enclosure," said Steve Riley, Design Engineer at Trenton Technology. "In a cluster computer application, the optional GigE switch on the backplane provides a fabric interface which allows the four PICMG 1.3 SHBs to share data and interface to an upstream host over a the backplane's Ethernet hub port."
