Agilent Technologies' Enhanced Automotive Functional Test Platforms Accelerate Test Delivery, Lower Manufacturing Costs

Scalable, Flexible Agilent TS-5400 Series II Speeds Time to Market for Automotive Electronic Control Modules

PALO ALTO, Calif., Nov. 15, 2002 -- Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: A) today announced that it has enhanced its TS-5400 Series II Automotive Functional Test Platform (AFTP), a complete measurement-ready test solution designed to help automotive electronics manufacturers meet time-to-market pressures. The platform accelerates functional test deployment, reduces test development costs, and helps engineers get their automotive electronics control modules (ECMs) to market quicker.

The Agilent TS-5400 Series II AFTP is a scalable and flexible platform that provides a compatible migration path for critical product test software, and helps customers reduce manufacturing costs by increasing throughput with a smaller equipment footprint. In addition, test plans written for previous generation systems can be reused with minimal modifications. The TS-5400 Series II AFTP ships as a complete measurement-ready platform that can be quickly utilized in production capacity.

"The platform concept eliminates the common task and process steps engineers perform on all test systems, such as developing and documenting the hardware, racking and cabling, and developing the software infrastructure to support re-use," said Dave Myers, vice president and general manager of Agilent's System Generation and Delivery Unit. "The Agilent TS-5400 Series II AFTP integrates software, hardware and cabling, allowing test engineers to focus their resources on tasks unique to the ECU under test and the enterprise connectivity and fixturing that is specific to a given manufacturing environment."

"We have been using the Agilent TS-5400 Series II AFTP at manufacturing sites around the world, and are pleased to hear that Agilent is continuing their commitment as a major provider of functional test systems in the automotive industry," said Werner Scharl, director of Manufacturing Test for Siemens VDO Automotive AG.

The Agilent TS-5400 Series II AFTP includes the following enhancements:

o the Agilent Test Executive SL 5.0 software environment, with more than 200 automotive routines, which is extendable with MS Visual Basic;

o support of the latest serial protocol standards, and new system form factors with a smaller equipment footprint; and

o integrated software, hardware and cabling.
