MSC.Software Expands Predictive NVH Solutions with Release of MSC.ADAMS/Car Ride

New Ride & Comfort Product Developed with European Car Manufacturers Complements Finite Element-Based NVH Solutions

Traverse City, MI, SAE Noise and Vibration Conference, - May 6, 2003 - MSC.Software Corp. (NYSE: MNS), the leading global provider of virtual product development (VPD) tools including simulation software, services and systems, today announced that MSC.ADAMS/Car Ride, a new product dedicated to multibody-based predictive ride&comfort engineering for the automotive industry has been released to selected customers.

MSC.Software has developed MSC.ADAMS/Car Ride with a consortium of major European automotive manufacturers with the purpose of allowing virtual ride & comfort engineering earlier in the design process. MSC.ADAMS/Car Ride includes the required elements, models and event definitions for building, testing and post processing within the ride frequency regime. Once the components are specified in detail, a full-vehicle assembly can be run through a battery of predefined ride & comfort simulation scenarios, based on an extended four-post test rig, enabling the user to estimate typical system-level NVH metrics.

"NVH engineering is most often done towards the end of the design process. The problem is that it is much more time and cost-intensive to make design changes later in the product development cycle," said Frank Perna, chairman and chief executive officer of MSC.Software. "With MSC.ADAMS/Car Ride, virtual prototypes can be effectively shared between different departments, giving engineers the ability to evaluate design changes based upon both handling and NVH requirements much earlier in the design process which can save an enormous amount of time and money."

"MSC.Software is focused on increasing the coverage of our product offerings especially as it relates to automotive applications like the NVH process," continued Perna. "With MSC.ADAMS/Car Ride, MSC.Software is expanding the scope of our Functional Digital Car solutions to include ride and comfort testing. The functionality of MSC.ADAMS/Car Ride is the perfect complement to our finite-element based NVH solutions, MSC.Nastran and MSC.Actran "

MSC.Software's complete NVH offering, tailored to both automotive OEMs and suppliers, and related to predictive vibration and acoustic applications, will be showcased in occasion of the forthcoming SAE Noise & Vibration Conference and Exhibition, on May 5-8, 2003, in Traverse City, Michigan, USA.
