First New Scan Tool From Snap-on in 15 Years Takes Scanner(TM) Technology to a New Level
Lincolnshire, III., July 20, 2004 - Snap-on is proud to introduce the newest member of the diagnostics family, the SOLUS(TM) scan tool (EESC310A). SOLUS delivers a comprehensive approach to on-board diagnostics that includes a powerful combination of a larger 1/2 VGA color screen, more updated vehicle coverage, advanced instrumentation, faster performance, and instant upgrading capabilities. Snap-on will continue to offer Solus' predecessor, the MT2500 Scanner(TM). Newer, industry-leading software applications and upgrades from Snap-on will be available for both units.
The new SOLUS scan tool provides critical diagnostic data faster and presents more of the information at once, allowing technicians to make better decisions in less time. SOLUS is ideal for general repair, specialty import, brake, transmission and collision shops where technicians and shop owners need to diagnose engines, transmissions, brakes, airbags and other controlled systems. SOLUS replaces the need for multiple, expensive manufacturer-specific tools.
SOLUS eliminates software cartridges and allows customers to receive instant flash software updates straight from the Snap-on dealer van. There are no additional hardware costs or installation procedures when receiving software updates, making the upgrading process convenient and simple. Two compact flash slots store all software titles, user files, as well as individual user profiles and information.
In use, the rugged lightweight SOLUS tool incorporates Fast-Track(TM) Troubleshooter information with live data and actuates bi-directional tests to explain and diagnose code and symptom related problems. The units advanced instrumentation captures data continuously for all parameters, not only the ones that appear on the screen, enabling technicians to view and trace faults when they occur. Viewing options include 1, 2 or 4 graphs with up to 512 frames of data. All parameters can be reviewed by pausing the data and can be viewed in text, PID list, and graph modes. Activating cursors allows technicians to compare values and create a frame of reference.
Troubleshooter routines are integrated with instrumentation for engine, transmission, ABS and other computer-controlled systems. More than 50,000 proven repair tips are included for quick reference and solutions for simple, routine or intermittent problems. Domestic Driveability Fast-Track Troubleshooter applications for Chrysler, Ford and GM vehicles provide tips for a range of topics such as evaporative leak detection, "Next Generation Controller" power systems, "PCM" location and replacement, "PATS" module replacement, application charting, key programming procedures and more.
Additionally, SOLUS contains the Domestic Transmission Fast-Track Troubleshooter software that covers transmission and transaxle systems for GM, Ford, and Chrysler vehicles from 1981 to 2000 model years. A comprehensive library of technical service bulletins provides proven approaches to diagnostic problems and instant access to more quality data.
The suite of other installed Fast-Track applications includes Asian Import Driveability Fast-Track Troubleshooter, which offers thousands of new codes and driveability symptoms for 14 Asian vehicle makes; Asian Import Transmission Fast-Track Troubleshooter, transmission and transaxle coverage for 30 systems and additional features that include expanded symptom tips for quick diagnostic solutions; and Anti-Lock Brake Fast-Track Troubleshooter, which simplifies brake system complexity and provides thousands of anti-lock brake, traction control and related solutions for Domestic and Asian Import vehicle makes.
SOLUS is built on Microsoft Windows CE technology and includes and expands upon all of the previous vehicle communication capabilities of the Snap-on® Scanner(TM). Rugged exterior housing protects the equipment and is designed to withstand an active shop environment. SOLUS is powered from the OBD connector with internal batteries providing quick ID power. USB and infrared wireless connection ports are standard to accommodate future system expansions and accessories.
