Omnicell Debuts Industry's First Total Automated Patient-Specific Management Solution

Revolutionary software medication solution reduces complexity in patient-specific medication management; significantly boosts pharmacy and nursing efficiency and improves patient safety

LAS VEGAS, ASHP, Dec. 3 -- Ushering in a new era in medication management, Omnicell, Inc. (NASDAQ:OMCL) a leading provider of system solutions targeting patient safety and operational efficiency in healthcare facilities, today introduced its SinglePointe(TM) total automated patient-specific management solution, which is the first in the industry. Debuted with the latest release of Omnicell 12.0 automated dispensing software, the SinglePointe solution revolutionizes the way hospital pharmacy and nursing staff store, manage, and track patient-specific medications.

"We listened to our customers and developed a solution that addresses some of the most difficult problems and inefficiencies of both pharmacy and nursing staff," said Randall A. Lipps, chairman, president and chief executive officer, Omnicell. "Our SinglePointe solution addresses the time-consuming, inconsistent and labor intensive medication management procedures that remain in hospitals today by providing nurses and pharmacists with a single point of access for all patient medications that is simpler and safer."

The combination of the SinglePointe solution, with an existing bedside bar code verification system and the addition of mobile cart solution from Omnicell's recently- announced agreement to acquire Rioux Vision, means the company will be able to deliver on a closed-loop medication management, administration and dispensing system that greatly reduces the risk of medication errors, boosts staff efficiency and advances patient safety.

In a departure from traditional medication dispensing systems, the SinglePointe solution provides an auto-assign process that matches patient- specific locations with patients and their medications that are not routinely stocked in the dispensing system. This proprietary feature significantly reduces the labor intensive process of loading and unloading medications in the dispensing system as well as the management of multi-use and "home" medications. Whether the patient is transferred or discharged, the SinglePointe solution's user intuitive workflow results in improved control and accountability of these patient-specific medications.

"We are excited about the opportunity to provide our nursing colleagues with software that improves efficiencies in their workflow," said Sherri Ramsey, D.Ph., BCPS, director of pharmacy, University of Tennessee. "In addition, we are looking forward to a system that will help us to improve our compliance with regulatory issues."

The SinglePointe solution's versatile platform complements and supports current cartfill, cartless or hybrid models of medication distribution. In addition, the SinglePointe solution works seamlessly with other Omnicell products, allowing hospitals to leverage their investments.

The release of Omnicell 12.0 also incorporates over 25 additional new features inspired by Omnicell customers. These include another industry-first patient safety feature that allows medications to be prohibited from being stocked in specific medication dispensing systems. With this feature a hospital could restrict adult-dose medications from being stocked in a dispensing system that supports pediatric patients.

Each day, over a quarter million nurses use Omnicell medication systems to effectively manage medications. With the integration of Omnicell 12.0 automated dispensing software, hospitals will benefit from a unique patient- specific solution that sets a new industry standard and reduces complexity and improves patient safety.
