Audio Power Amplifier features DC volume control.

Press Release Summary:

Model TPA2008D2 5 V, Filter-Free, Class-D Amplifier will drive 6 W into 3 ohm speakers at full power with no external heat sink. Gain is controlled by DC voltage applied to VOLUME pin. Half power total harmonic distortion plus noise is 0.045% at 1 kHz, and noise floor is -80 dBV. Amplifier comes in standard PowerPAD(TM) surface-mount, 24-pin TSSOP package and is suited for 15-17 in. LCD TVs and multi-function monitors.

TI Announces Industry's First 5-V Filter-Free Class-D Audio Power Amplifier with DC Volume Control Integration Cuts Costs, Time for Designers

Cuts Costs, Time for Designers

DALLAS (September 18, 2003) - Advancing its portfolio of Filter-Free Class-D audio power amplifiers for LCD flat panel display, LCD projection and powered speaker manufacturers, Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) (NYSE:TXN) introduced today the industry's first 5-V Filter-Free Class-D audio power amplifier with integrated DC volume control, cutting costs and time for designers. (See www.ti.com/sc03198 for more information.) The gain of the TPA2008D2, which affects the output power level, is controlled by a DC voltage applied to the VOLUME pin. At full power the TPA2008D2 will drive 6 W (3 W x 2) into 3-ohm speakers with no external heat sink-ideal for popular 15" to 17" LCD TVs and multi-function monitors.

Eliminating the external heat sink is made possible from its high efficiency of over 80 percent. The efficiency reduces heat in the system and reduces current requirements from the power supply. The device's lower heat and current requirements are complimented by its superior sound quality. Half power total harmonic distortion plus noise (THD+N) is a mere 0.045% at 1kHz and the noise floor is a benchmark for Class-D amplifiers at -80 dBV. The low THD+N and noise floor help insure a clean, pure signal is heard at the speaker.
