New ATX Embedded Motherboard from Kontron with Intel® Pentium® M Processors: Kontron 886LCD-M/ATX - More Graphics, Less Energy



With the 886LCD-M/ATX, Kontron introduces a new ATX format embedded motherboard for Intel® Pentium® M and Intel Celeron® M processors. The mPGA478 slot with 90-nanometer construction is suitable for the complete range of Intel mobile processors.

The combination of Intel latest technology chipsets, the 855GME for integrated graphics functions and the 6300ESB as an I/O hub, makes the new motherboard an energy-saving, high-end solution for demanding graphics tasks. Speed and flexibility in the internal and external communications are ensured by serial ATA, LVDS, three Gigabit LAN interfaces, four COM ports and four USB 2.0 ports.

Besides these features, the Kontron ATX format assembly is distinguished by a guaranteed long-term availability of five years.

The range of applications for embedded ATX boards includes 19" rackmount systems, point-of-sale and point-of-information applications, the games and infotainment market, measurement engineering solutions and banking. However, they are also found in classic industrial environments or applications that demand high graphics performance, such as medical imaging processes.

The chipset combination 855GME and 6300ESB
With the Intel Extreme Graphics 2 Controller, which is integrated in the 855GME chipset, the 886LCD-M/ATX is equipped for the highest graphics demands. The graphics components, LCD controller and AGP slot communicate with each other in high-speed LVDS mode. The AGP slot accepts standard AGP graphics cards or Kontron's more economical ADD-DVI or ADD-LVDS cards.
As an I/O controller hub, the 6300ESB chipset equips the ATX motherboard with 32-bit/33 MHz PCI, serial ATA, USB 2.0 and serial ATA SOFT RAID 0/1.

Serial ATA
In addition to the 'traditional' ATA/100 interfaces, two serial ATA/150 IDE controllers are implemented, delivering significant cost and performance advantages. In comparison to parallel ATA technology, the serial version allows point-to-point connections through which the components communicate with full bandwidth. Thus, communication is faster, while the need for cables is reduced.

API interface software
Kontron provides free API software to monitor and control 886LCD-M/ATX. The API interface allows the monitoring of CPU temperature, board voltages, fan rotation and HDD S.M.A.R.T. figures by network. This monitoring and control feature protects the operation of the system and reduces the cost of maintenance.
