AT&T Adds New Monitoring and Reporting Features to Its Hosting Solutions Portfolio

BEDMINSTER, N.J., Feb. 5 / -- AT&T Inc. (NYSE:T) today announced new industry-leading global features for AT&T Enterprise Hosting Services that are designed to give customers more choices in the way they monitor and manage their hosting environments.

Highlighting the new features is a patent-pending dashboard that gives network and applications managers a vibrant and holistic view of the current health of their hosted environments through advanced graphical monitoring capabilities. AT&T also introduced an enhanced report generator for producing reports on server use that provides a new level of dynamic business intelligence. Both features can be accessed through AT&T's award-winning BusinessDirect® customer portal.

Additionally, AT&T announced an expansion of its supported certified library for products from the industry's leading hardware and software vendors, providing greater flexibility for client's applications requirements.

"The patent-pending visual monitoring tool gives AT&T's hosting customers greater visibility into their environments hosted by AT&T, ranging from managed infrastructure to fully managed applications environments," said Steve Caniano, AT&T vice president.

"The global demand for managed hosted services is fueled by businesses that see hosting as a way to realize higher efficiencies in their IT operations. AT&T is responding to that need by introducing a monitoring tool that lets users see with unparalleled clarity the relationships among servers, applications and other assets across their hosted environments," Caniano said.

AT&T's new visual-monitoring tool gives managed hosting customers the ability to drill down deeper into the workings of their hosted environment and to collect highly detailed performance data. Network and applications managers can use the tool to view color-coded alarms and warnings superimposed over topology diagrams to easily locate root causes of applications and system failures, along with the ability to conveniently create trouble tickets.

AT&T also enhanced its BusinessDirect customer portal with new capabilities for generating a wider selection of interactive reports across an infrastructure's network, server and Web component layers. Customers can use the reporting feature to obtain performance statistics on network and server components and easily compare information from multiple sources for better capacity planning choices. In addition to having access to more than a year of archived and near real-time reports on CPU utilization, free memory, and available disk space, clients can choose to subscribe to premium features that include the ability to create customized reports, integrate data from multiple sources in the same query and schedule email alerts.

"Customers of managed services are looking for an enhanced user experience that delivers greater visibility into their key network, system and applications metrics," said Melanie Posey, research director of IDC's Web Hosting Services. "Management, monitoring and reporting capabilities, like those being offered by AT&T, help customers improve their profitability by giving them the tools to drill down deeper into their hosted environments and to get real-time status information on mission-critical business applications and systems. This, in turn, will enable them to make better data-driven decisions."

AT&T continues to offer Hosting customers access to an extensive library of the latest hardware, operating systems, and application software from vendors such as IBM, Red Hat, Veritas, Microsoft, BEA, Sun, Dell and HP. Recently, AT&T added AIX to its certified library and upgraded its server virtualization platform to VMware 3.0.

The added capabilities announced today come on the heels of AT&T's recent acquisition of applications service provider USinternetworking (USi). By acquiring USi, AT&T expands its portfolio of fully managed hosting services with capabilities that complement its existing managed services and paves the way for the company to drive more deeply into the applications management space with new offers for businesses of all sizes. These include the ability to remotely monitor or manage a customer's enterprise applications and server environment. AT&T services its hosting services customers out of 32 global Internet Data Centers.

The enhancements also represent the latest effort by AT&T to maintain its leadership in the booming global hosting business. The research firm IDC predicted that the managed hosting services market in the U.S. would reach $8 billion in 2006 and top $3.7 billion (U.S.) in China. IDC also projected that the Western European managed hosting market would reach $4.7 billion (U.S.) during the same period.
