Synergen Announces Enhancement of Synergen Series(TM) EAM/CMMS Compatible Unit Functionality

Award-winning Enterprise Asset Management solution enhanced to deliver business-critical design, construction, and regulatory compliance features for Energy Delivery

WALNUT CREEK, CA, DECEMBER 16, 2003 - Synergen, Inc. (synergen.com), a leading provider of Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) and Computerized Maintenance Management (CMMS) solutions, today announced that it has enhanced its flagship product, the Synergen Series(tm), with expanded Compatible Unit (CU) functionality, providing powerful new tools to streamline design, construction, and regulatory reporting activities undertaken by utility organizations. With several municipal utilities currently implementing Synergen's CUs, this new functionality will be showcased at DistribuTECH 2004 in Orlando, FL, on Jan. 20, 2004.

A compatible unit is a design element used by engineers that includes materials, labor, instructions and equipment that represent standardized units of work, such as the installation of a utility pole or transformer. Compatible units also include specific accounting information that is dependent upon the resulting asset's function and usage. By using compatible units, clients can minimize the amount of time required to create a design estimate and ensure that the costs associated with capital construction projects have a higher degree of accuracy -- translating to improved budget and schedule adherence.

Synergen's flexible approach to compatible units enables utility companies to minimize the number of compatible units maintained while including extensive support for outside services. Data accuracy improvements and regulatory reporting efficiencies are delivered by automating the process of calculating and allocating expenditures to the appropriate Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) or Public Utility Commission (PUC) accounting codes. Also streamlined is the property accounting/unitization process with "as built" information.

"Compatible units is yet another example of the power and agility of Synergen's component-based architecture to rapidly develop vertical market solutions with deeper functionality," said Barry DeMartini, Vice President of Product Development at Synergen. "Via the flexibility of the Synergen Internet Architecture (SIA), we were able to quickly deliver a robust solution that assists our utility clients in streamlining their design and construction processes, while facilitating FERC and PUC reporting and compliance. The addition of Compatible Units within the Synergen Series enables our clients to do this affordably without incurring the cost and effort required to license and implement another third-party solution."

Synergen's Web-architected CMMS/EAM software suite, The Synergen Series(tm), addresses all aspects of MRO including collaborative work management from design/build through maintenance and repair; asset reliability and optimization; capital project management; inventory control, purchasing and contract management; real-time operational cost accounting; KPIs, metrics and analytics; safety and regulatory compliance; and document control. Supported by the latest in Internet technology, users need only a standard Web browser to rapidly install, deploy and access Synergen solutions across the enterprise.
