Original Press Release:

Exclusive SHOWBIZ® CMH® Architectural Lighting from GE Raises the Bar on Performance, Maximizes Optical Control

CLEVELAND - Now available exclusively from GE is the SHOWBIZ® CMH®150PAR56 lamp for architectural and retail lighting applications. Offering three beam spreads (narrow spot, medium flood and wide flood) and two color temperatures (3000 degrees Kelvin and 4200 degrees Kelvin), the CMH®150PAR56 outperforms standard halogen PAR56 lamps in standard PAR can fixtures on several levels:
  • It lasts twice as long as a standard 500-watt quartz PAR56 lamp
  • It is up to 300 percent more energy efficient (150 watts vs. 500 watts)
  • Using exclusive GE ConstantColor® technology, it combines a high color-rendering index with improved color consistency and lumen maintenance

The SHOWBIZ® CMH®150PAR56 complements the SHOWBIZ® CMH®150PAR64 lamp, introduced previously and recognized by the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America as a unique and significant advancement to the art and science of lighting.

The SHOWBIZ® CMH®150PAR64 offers architectural lighting designers and specifiers three beam spreads (spot, medium flood and wide flood) with two color temperatures (3000 and 4200 degrees Kelvin). It delivers up to 240,000 MPBC (mean peak beam candelas) with only 150 watts, outperforming standard 1000-watt quartz PAR64 lamps used in many architectural applications. SHOWBIZ® CMH®150PAR64 lamps are rated for 8000 hours of life, which equates to two times the life of standard 1000-watt quartz PAR64 lamps.

The SHOWBIZ® CMH®150PAR56 and PAR64 lamps are suitable for use with any standard electronic ballast or conventional ceramic metal halide ballast with igniters. The lamps fit standard PAR can fixtures that contain lamp holders rated for 5kV.

GE's three-piece construction of the arc tube contributes to excellent color uniformity lamp-to-lamp and over a lamp's life; an 80-plus CRI at 3000 K and 90-plus CRI at 4200 K; operation in any position (universal burn); and high efficiency (up to 90 lumens per watt). The rugged sealed-beam construction of the lamps offers precise optical control and a sealed environment to prevent dust, dirt and other hazards from degrading the reflector.

"We're proud of the number of exclusive SHOWBIZ® products that we're introducing to customers this year," says Gerry Schuh, SHOWBIZ® product manager. "These innovative ceramic metal halide product introductions demonstrate our ability to listen to customers and our agility in developing timely solutions."

Developed through the GE Six Sigma process, these new SHOWBIZ® CMH® lamps further expand GE's full range of high-performance stage and studio lamps. Like every SHOWBIZ® product, SHOWBIZ® CMH® lamps incorporate the latest lighting technologies.
