Antimicrobial Ice Scoop By CHG Prevents The Spread Of Bacteria In Kitchens

64 oz. Ice Scoop Features SANIGUARD® Antimicrobial Technology

LAKEWOOD, NJ - February 13, 2008 - Recent publicized reports have documented that improper hand washing, food handling and equipment maintenance are to blame for high levels of coliform bacteria in ice served in restaurants and cafeterias-in some cases, toilet water was even found to be significantly cleaner.

Component Hardware Group (CHG), a leading manufacturer and distributor of plumbing and specialty hardware components for the healthcare, foodservice, institutional and commercial markets, has introduced a new 64 oz. antimicrobial ice scoop to its product line, designed to cut down on the risk of ice bin cross-contamination. The antimicrobial ice scoop is ideal for use in OEM ice bins and may also be used as a dry measure scoop.

The ice scoop features SANIGUARD antimicrobial technology, which inhibits the growth of bacteria, mold and mildew and has a molded hand guard to prevent accidental hand contact with the ice. SANIGUARD is a cost-effective, inorganic antimicrobial treatment that utilizes a silver ion-based technology to retard the growth of bacteria and odor-causing molds and mildews on treated surfaces and lasts for the expected life of the product. Other SANIGUARD products include water tanks, faucet handles, door knobs, flush handles and other touch points on plumbing and hardware components.

"The scientific reports on restaurant ice are shocking," said Thomas Carr, president of CHG. "When you're seeing cases where toilet water is testing significantly cleaner than some samples of ice served in restaurants, it's time to think about doing more than just encouraging employees to wash their hands."

The proprietary SANIGUARD coating has been proven effective in inhibiting the growth of a broad spectrum of microorganisms in both clinical studies and recent third party, evidence-based tests conducted at Columbia Basin Hospital in Ephrata, Washington. "Independent, evidence-based testing is the gold standard by which the efficacy of antimicrobial products is rated by infection control professionals and risk managers" said Carr. "The results achieved at Columbia Basin Hospital and other evidence-based testing sites prove that SANIGUARD Antimicrobial treated products perform as advertised."

SANIGUARD is currently the only antimicrobial treatment to meet National Sanitation Foundation (NSF) Protocol P345 for antimicrobial efficacy.

This information is provided strictly to substantiate the efficacy of the SANIGUARD antimicrobial compound and is not intended to support or endorse public health claims for treated articles under EPA regulation 40 CFR 152.25 (a).
