SonicWALL Releases Stand-Alone Version of Popular Desktop Anti-Virus to Extend Layered Security

SUNNYVALE, Calif., June 21 /- SonicWALL, Inc. (NASDAQ:SNWL) today launched its Stand-alone Client Anti-Virus product providing the same clientside protection capabilities as its Enforced Client Anti-Virus and Anti-Spyware software solution for non-SonicWALL Unified Threat Management (UTM) customers.

SonicWALL's Stand-alone Client Anti-Virus offers the same comprehensive anti-virus and anti-spyware protection as its Enforced Client offers, minus the enforcement capability. By changing how and where the Client Anti-Virus software can be deployed, new incremental revenue opportunities are created for channel partners. Now non-SonicWALL UTM users can protect their desktops from the latest Internet threats with regular updates of virus and spyware signatures delivered directly to the desktop, without the need of replacing their current UTM appliance. The Stand-alone client is deployed and managed via SonicWALL's MySonicWall.com web portal instead of from the UTM appliance management interface, as is required for the Enforced Client. MySonicWall.com allows SonicWALL customers to register and manage all their SonicWALL appliances and services.

SonicWALL also announced today major enhancements to its Enforced Client Anti-Virus and Anti-Spyware software, providing a new set of automated security and management features to protect user desktops from Internet threats, and further reduce the need for IT administrator intervention. New capabilities in SonicWALL Enforced Client Anti-Virus and Anti-Spyware version 4.5 include support for Windows Vista, a centralized desktop firewall feature that acts as a barrier against malicious intrusions, and browser protection, delivered via McAfee's SiteAdvisor service, which protects users from Web sites known or suspected to harbor malware.

"SonicWALL's Enforced Client has been a key component for several years in providing a consistent, layered protection strategy for our customers," said Tim Martinez, president of Western NRG, Inc. (www.westernnrg.com). "The SonicWALL solution provides the means to centrally manage all PCs in the enterprise through user defined groups and policies. The new 4.5 release has added client firewall settings and browser protection, offering substantial improvements to PC defenses. The enhancements to the centralized management interface make it easier than ever to manage and enforce client policy."

SonicWALL's Enforced Client operates in conjunction with the company's UTM appliances to provide comprehensive, layered protection to networks of all sizes. Developed with McAfee, SonicWALL Enforced Client currently protects over 600,000 small and mid-sized business users worldwide. SonicWALL's endpoint security solutions offer IT administrators simple, centralized enforcement capabilities, delivering regular updates of virus and spyware signatures directly to the user's desktop, automatically checking that clients are up-to-date before they are permitted to access the Internet, and enabling users to remediate non-compliant systems without the need for IT intervention.

"Threat management is an around-the-clock necessity for IT administrators, but machine-by-machine interaction creates an excessive drain on their resources," said Allen Schoonmaker, product line manager at SonicWALL. "Our endpoint security technology solves that problem by providing automatic enforcement from the gateway firewall to the desktop in a centrally managed solution that enables users to have the latest protection on their desktops. It is a key element in SonicWALL's layered security offering."

Both Stand-alone Client Anti-Virus and Enforced Client Anti-Virus version 4.5 are available immediately. Existing subscribers to SonicWALL's Enforced Client Anti-Virus and Anti-Spyware or SonicWALL's Client/Server Anti-Virus Suite have automatically received the version 4.5 update as part of their active subscription at no additional charge.
