Gleason-Mahr Alliance Rolls Out Next-Generation GMX400 Analytical Gear Tester

September 8, 2004 -- Gleason's recent alliance with world gear metrology leader Mahr has resulted in the introduction of a new family of next-generation CLASS 1 CNC 4-axis "generative scanning" inspection systems for comprehensive gear tooth and flank form measuring in a single setup.

Latest in the new series is the GMX400 (400 mm O.D. capacity), designed from the ground up to deliver faster, more accurate, more complete and highly affordable elementary measurement of internal and external cylindrical gears, bevel gears and gear tools. Together with the smaller capacity GMX275 (275 mm O.D.), the GMX series offers a host of features long-sought by manufacturers of all types of gears.

These include:

- The ability to perform comprehensive gear tooth and flank form audit, or select testing for bevel and cylindrical gears using a single fixturing setup.

- Use of a 4-axis inspection system with direct driven worktable for high acceleration and accurate positioning.

- Composite tailstock design with operator designed features including: variable speed control, inter-changeable live centers, and constant clamping force.

- 3-D probe system with both scanning and single point data acquisition modes.

- Easy to use software for test and evaluation of cylindrical and bevel gear components, requiring limited training and skill.

- Very high accuracy of part setup and inspection, through use of an automatic CNC center and tilt table that enables users to perform a one time, single part setup for all measurements.

- Integrated Gleason corrective program, G-AGE 4 Windows.

- Fast part changeover and location using tailstock mounted gears between centers, or with quick-change tooling.

- Small-footprint design: the GMX occupies only 600 mm x 1500 mm.

In addition to the GMX Series, Gleason sells, services and supports a complete line of Gleason-Mahr products throughout the world. These products range from Double Flank Gear Roll Testers that quickly identify process variations on the shop floor on-the-fly, to Universal Gear Inspection Systems.
