Hi-Speed USB Analog Switch Integrates USB Host-Charger Identification Circuit

Maxim's new 3mm x 3mm analog switch saves board space and eliminates the need for software, as compared to discrete implementations.

SUNNYVALE, CA - Maxim Integrated Products (NASDAQ: MXIM) introduces the MAX14550E, a Hi-Speed USB analog switch with a USB host-charger identification circuit to automatically detect portable devices. This device allows a host to charge portable devices even when the host is in standby and cannot enumerate USB devices. The MAX14550E supports the USB Battery Charging Specification Revision 1.0 with shorted D+/D- detection, as well as Apple®-compliant devices using a set resistor bias. Integrating this functionality within a single IC eliminates the need for multiple discrete components and minimizes software overhead. This low-cost solution is well suited for space-constrained notebooks and netbooks.

The MAX14550E features a high-performance, Hi-Speed USB switch with low 4pF (typ) on-capacitance and low 4W (typ) on-resistance. Operating over the -40°C to +85°C extended temperature range, the device is available in a 3mm x 3mm, 10-pin TDFN package. Prices start at $1.65 (1000-up, FOB USA).
